Named as one of the top 20 highest achieving schools in NSW, based on 2025 NAPLAN results

I wanted to reiterate this amazing news that was included in this week's Sydney Morning Herald article about NAPLAN and HSC results 2025.

Hurstville PS has been named as one of the top 20 highest achieving schools in NSW, based on 2025 NAPLAN results.

This recognition is a testament to our fantastic, hardworking and dedicated students, the deep commitment of our incredible staff to our students through high quality teaching and learning, outstanding support of the wellbeing of every young person and the fundamental collaboration with our parents and community members that provides a strong foundation of trust across our school community.

Well done to our students! What an incredible performance and a wonderful acknowledgement of their commitment to learning.

An enormous thanks to our teachers, specialist and admin staff and to our school community members for always putting the young people of Hurstville PS first and foremost on our journey together.

NAPLAN results 2025: How top HSC schools perform in NAPLAN

St Georges Anglican Church Christmas Market – Supporting the Hurstville PS Sensory Play Space (St George and Sutherland Leader article below)

Just a reminder that again this year the St George Anglican Church will be again supporting a Hurstville PS project through the operation of the Christmas market on Saturday 13 December.

For the past few years, the St George Anglican Church fundraising efforts have supported our large capital projects such as the Multipurpose Sports Court.

In 2025, the team at St Georges Anglican Church pledged support for the construction of the Sensory Play Space at Hurstville PS and wished to be part of the local community fund raising efforts via a donation from the funds raised at the Christmas Markets.

The Hurstville PS community has very much valued our ongoing partnership and support from St Georges Anglican Church and thank them for their generous support of the Sensory Play Space.

Upcoming Capital Works - December 2025 /January 2026 School vacation work schedule

The upcoming school vacation period will see significant capital works projects being completed at Hurstville PS. We have three very large jobs commencing at the end of Week 10 Term 4.

The works scheduled for the December/January school vacation period include:

A new roof installed on the F Block building (current Kindergarten/Year 1 building)

Renovation of the student toilet facilities in E Block (current Year 3/Year 4 building), G Block (Year 2 and Support Unit building), C Block (Current small Kindergarten Building) and F Block (current Kindergarten/Year 1 building)

Upstairs E Block hall (current Year 3/Year 4 building) will be repartitioned into an additional two permanent classrooms in this space.

REMINDER - Forest Road Airlock Gate – Safety Update

Over the weekend, the Department of Education installed a new airlock (dual) gate at the Forest Road pedestrian entrance. This upgrade supports our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure school environment.

The internal gate includes a child-safe latch, positioned above a child’s reach. This week, the internal gate has remained open to help students and families adjust. From next week, the internal gate will be locked during school hours.

What families need to know:

Students arriving after 9:15 am must be accompanied by an adult to enter through the Forest Road gate.
Late-arriving students must attend the front office with an adult to collect a late slip, as per our usual procedure.

Thank you for your support as we introduce these enhanced safety measures for our students.

In conjunction with our official 2025 Presentation Day ceremonies, grades will also be taking part in some kind of end of year fun day. Further advice regarding the arrangements and dates for the various fun days will be shared with families in the coming weeks.

2026 Class Placements and Structure - Term 4 Reminder

Each year during Term 4, our school leadership and grade teams dedicate significant time to planning the class structure, staffing, and student placements for the upcoming school year. We have now started the process for 2026.

When organising classes, many factors are taken into account to ensure the best possible outcomes for every child. Alongside the NSW Department of Education’s guidelines regarding class sizes at different year levels, we also consider:

Academic achievement levels
Special needs (High Potential and Gifted, Learning and Support, special assistance)
EAL/D status (length of time learning English)
Medical concerns
Relationships that should be maintained or separated (teacher–student, student–student)
Behavioural issues or concerns
Relevant family circumstances
Students receiving additional funding support
Current referrals to the Learning Support Team
Teacher allocation

If you have specific concerns about your child’s placement relating to any of these factors, please contact one of our Deputy Principals, Ms Russell, Mrs Saad or Mr Renshaw, by phone or email as soon as possible. Waiting until the start of the new school year to raise these matters is too late.

We are committed to doing our very best for every student and appreciate your support with this process.

By the end of this term, a proposed class structure will be finalised. However, as always, we will review and adjust the overall class structure in the early weeks of the new school year, once all 2026 enrolment information is confirmed.
