Celebrating an Incredible Achievement – Congratulations, Kahlia!

We are thrilled to share that Kahlia Nguyen from Year 2 has returned to Australia as a Gold Medalist from the highly prestigious Abu Dhabi World Jiu Jitsu Championship (UAEJJF). Competing on the world stage against athletes from Australia, Brazil and India, Kahlia secured decisive wins in all her matches, each under one minute.

This outstanding result follows an exceptional year of competition at local, state and national levels, where she collected multiple gold medals and titles, including the AFBJJ Australian National Championship and the IBJJF Pan Pacific Championship. Across 2025, Kahlia achieved over 69 wins, placing her 2nd in Australia for her division.

We congratulate Kahlia on her remarkable dedication, hard work and sportsmanship. The entire school community is incredibly proud of her achievements. Well done, Kahlia! 🌟

Road Safety and Morning Drop-Off

We’ve recently received some concerns from parents about unsafe driving near the school during morning drop-off, particularly around Orange Lane. The safety of our students is our highest priority, and we ask for everyone’s support to keep our roads and footpaths safe.

Please help by:

  • Obeying all road signs, including no entry, no parking and no stopping zones
  • Using the designated drop-off and pick-up areas rather than driving into laneways or staff car parks
  • Driving slowly and being prepared to stop at all times, especially near gates and crossings
  • Avoiding U-turns or three-point turns near the school entrances
  • Encouraging children to use the footpath and designated crossings
  •

If you notice ongoing parking or traffic concerns around the school, you can report them directly to Georges River Council via their Log it, Fix it service at:https://www.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au/Services/Log-it-Fix-it

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep every child safe on their way to and from school.

Coming in 2026 – Revitalising Our School Entry for HPS’s 150th Anniversary

As we prepare to celebrate 150 years of Hurstville Public School in 2026, we are excited to share an early look at a major project planned for our front entrance.

HPS has partnered with Urban Landscape Projects, specialist school landscape designers, to create a refreshed and welcoming entry that reflects the history, pride, and diversity of our community. The concept includes new seating, garden spaces, pathways, and a feature community “design-a-brick” paver walkway leading from Forest Road into the school.

Families will have the opportunity to purchase a personalised engraved paver as part of this project — a lasting way to mark your connection to HPS. Funds raised through the paver program will support the works, alongside an application to the 2026 Community Building Partnership.

We look forward to sharing more details with you soon and inviting our community to be part of this exciting legacy project for the next generation of HPS students.

Hurstville Public School Turns 150 in 2026!

Next year marks an incredible milestone — 150 years of Hurstville Public School. Since opening its doors in 1876, our school has grown and evolved alongside the Hurstville community, shaping generations of learners and families.

To honour this moment in our history, our staff, students, and parent community have begun planning a series of celebrations, legacy projects, and community events that will recognise the people, stories, and spirit that have made Hurstville PS what it is today.

Our first planning sessions have already generated some exciting ideas — from a community festival, parade of decades, community engagement intiatives, and alumni event, to student legacy projects and a whole-school spectacular. Over the coming months, we’ll continue developing these ideas through sub-committees involving staff parents, community and students.

We’d love for our wider community to be part of this journey. If you have a broader connections to Hurstville Public School through past students, staff members, or parents, or if you would like to help celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime milestone, we’d love to hear from you.
