Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome back to Term 4! I hope you all managed some quality family time over the break, and that the students have enjoyed (mostly) being back at school. It’s hard to believe it is already Term 4 in many ways.

You would have seen my post last Friday, and I am sure the students would have come home talking about it after assembly, regarding the fabulous Mrs Carey, our assistant principal, deciding to retire at year’s end. After more than eight years at Ballarat North, and over thirty years in education, Kim and her husband have decided it is time to hit the road together. Mrs Carey will be missed by us all, and we will be sure to celebrate this and thank her for her tireless work in our school later in the year.

Year 6

As you read this, our Year 6 students are on their final day of camp to Flinders on the Mornington Peninsula – somewhere new for our school this year. I’m sure we will come back with many great stories, and that the students will have had a TONNE of fun.

While the Year 6 camp is been happening, Mrs Carey and Mrs Macdonald have been running our Year 5 “Leaders in the Making” program. This significant program immerses our Year 5 students in activities and tasks exploring their own leadership skills, and hearing from guest speakers allows them the opportunity to consider and apply for the vast array of student leadership roles that await them in Year 6.

ROTAKids

Last Thursday night we attended the ROTAKids Presentation Evening and Dinner, where our twenty Year 6 ROTAKids shared their life-changing projects from last term. It was fantastic to have so many family members and Rotarians attend to share in this great success, and the students spoke brilliantly about their Uniting Care packs and Kids’ Health Day initiatives. Everyone was just so proud of what these young people achieved, and I would like to express how proud I am to be able to partner with Rotary to be able to provide this opportunity for our children. This would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of teachers Mrs McLean and Mrs Gilbert who gave up their own time to enable this to take place, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Ballarat South. Just one of the great moments of 2025 for me!
