Wellbeing Update

Our school acknowledgement system is underway! Students are earning Values Cards for demonstrating our school values, working towards individual certificates and class celebrations. At our next assembly, we look forward to announcing the students and classes who have reached these milestones and celebrating their efforts together.

Our focus on Respect is also going well. We are continuing to explore what respect looks and sounds like in our classrooms, in the playground and around the school. Listening when others are speaking, using kind words, caring for shared spaces and including others are all ways students can put respect into practice.

Recognising the little things

Acknowledgement helps children understand which behaviours make a positive difference. Being specific makes this even more meaningful. For example, “You waited until I finished speaking—that was respectful,” helps a child connect their action with the value they demonstrated.

Try it at home

This week, ask your child: “How did you show respect today?” You might share an example of your own, too. These small conversations help children recognise that our school values matter wherever we are.

Showing respect when things feel tricky

It can be easier to show respect when things are going well. Losing a game, making a mistake or disagreeing with a friend can make it more challenging! These everyday moments are valuable opportunities for children to practise managing their feelings and responding respectfully.

We can help by acknowledging the feeling while guiding the response: “It’s okay to feel disappointed. Let’s think about how you can let someone know respectfully.” Sometimes children need time and support to settle before they are ready to work out what to do next.

At home, you might ask: “What helps you stay respectful when you’re frustrated?” Sharing how you manage your own tricky moments can also help children see that these skills take practice—even for adults.

We look forward to sharing and celebrating more of our students’ achievements at assembly in the upcoming weeks!

My days of work are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
