Well done to all our athletes! You should be very proud of your achievements and the way you represented CPS. We are proud of you!
Sporting Schools Grant – Gymnastics Clinics
We are excited to share that CPS has received $3,650 through the Sporting Schools Grant this term! This fantastic funding will allow us to provide our students with exciting opportunities to develop their physical skills, confidence and coordination through gymnastics clinics.
Our students will enjoy expert gymnastics instruction at no cost to families, with sessions organised as follows:
- Prep: Three hours of FREE gymnastics training across Weeks 6, 7 and 8.
- Years 1–6: Two hours of FREE gymnastics training across Weeks 6 and 7.
We are thrilled to be able to offer these sessions and provide our students with the opportunity to learn new skills, challenge themselves and enjoy trying a new sport. A big thank you to the Sporting Schools program for supporting physical activity and sporting opportunities at CPS!
3v3 Basketball Tournament at St Michael’s
CPS was delighted to be invited to participate in the 3v3 Basketball Tournament at St Michael’s, with the opportunity to enter two teams.
Ms Molloy and Mr Strain had the challenging task of selecting just 10 students from 30 enthusiastic participants who attended trials. It was a very difficult decision, and we would like to congratulate everyone who put themselves forward and gave it their best. We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part in the trials!
Both CPS teams played exceptionally well throughout the tournament, showing great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. A special shout-out goes to CPS 1, who battled their way through to the semi-finals and finished an impressive 4th overall in the tournament!
A huge well done to our 10 selected students: Hudson, Alex I, Alex B, Ada, Owen, Aki, Levi, Hiro, Rayansh and Alfie. You represented CPS with pride, and we are very proud of your efforts. Congratulations to everyone involved!
What’s Been Happening in PE?
It’s been a busy time in PE at CPS, with students developing their skills across a range of sports and activities!
Prep–Year 2: Basketball, Cricket and Skipping
Our youngest students have recently finished their basketball unit and have now been focusing on cricket and skipping skills. They have been practising their batting and bowling techniques while continuing to develop their coordination, timing and skipping skills. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and confidence grow as they try new activities and build their fundamental movement skills!
Years 3–4: Basketball, Soccer and Skipping
Years 3 and 4 have recently wrapped up their basketball unit, doing a fantastic job and showing great improvement in their skills, teamwork and game play. They have now moved on to soccer, developing their ball control, passing and teamwork in preparation for their upcoming Soccer Gala.
Students are also enjoying skipping during their warm-ups as part of our Jump Rope for Heart program. It’s wonderful to see them building their coordination and fitness while having fun and staying active!
Years 5–6: Basketball, Volleyball and Skipping
Years 5 and 6 have wrapped up their basketball unit and are now moving on to volleyball. Skipping has also become a regular feature of our warm-ups, helping students build coordination, fitness and footwork.
The students are also looking forward to their Beach Volleyball Tournament at South Melbourne Beach later this term! This is always a favourite event on the PE calendar, and we can’t wait to see our students enjoying some friendly competition by the beach.
Well done to all our students for their enthusiasm, effort and sportsmanship in PE!
Ms. Molloy (PE Teacher & Sports Coordinator)
Jump Rope for Heart
A friendly reminder that CPS is taking part in the Jump Rope for Heart program, raising vital funds for the Heart Foundation to support people living with heart conditions.
Last year, our school raised an incredible $7,000+, and we’re aiming to reach that same goal again this year! Every donation makes a difference, so please sign up, keep skipping and get fundraising to help us reach our target.
There are plenty of opportunities to practise your skipping skills at school, with skipping ropes available during playtimes. We also run a Friday morning Skipping Club from 8:30–8:50 am, and everyone is welcome!
Let’s keep moving, keep skipping and work together to make a difference. Every skip and every donation counts!
STEM News – Digital Technologies
Over the past few weeks, students across all year levels have been developing their digital technology skills through hands-on coding, programming and digital design activities. Students have been building their computational thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Prep
Prep students have been introduced to sequencing and algorithms, learning that an algorithm is a set of step-by-step instructions used to complete a task. They took turns being programmers and human robots, giving and following instructions to move around the classroom. Students also practised creating algorithms to draw and colour patterns, challenging their partners to follow their instructions accurately. These unplugged activities helped students develop their understanding of sequencing, communication and logical thinking.
Year 1/2
Year 1/2 students have been exploring simple coding and problem-solving using Botley robots. They learnt to create and sequence instructions to guide their robots through different challenges. Through testing and debugging their programs, students discovered the importance of giving clear instructions and making adjustments when things did not go as planned. These activities encouraged logical thinking, persistence and teamwork.
Year 3/4
Year 3/4 students have been developing their own mobile application prototypes using Google Slides. They explored how user interface elements, such as buttons, icons, images and menus, help people navigate and interact with digital applications. Students then applied their understanding to design and develop their own interfaces, considering how layout, organisation and visual features can make an application easy and enjoyable to use.
Year 5/6
Year 5/6 students have been introduced to Python programming using micro devices. They explored key coding concepts, including sequencing, iteration, selection and decision-making, through a range of practical challenges. Students programmed their micro to function as step counters, automatic nightlights and interactive games such as Rock, Paper, Scissors. These projects challenged students to apply logical thinking, troubleshoot errors and develop creative digital solutions.
It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they explore different ways to use technology creatively and purposefully. We look forward to continuing their digital learning journey throughout the remainder of the term.
