From the Classroom

2A News
It has been a wonderful start to the year in 2A. We have enjoyed reconnecting with old friends, meeting new classmates, and celebrating several birthdays together. As a class, we have worked collaboratively to establish our values and expectations, and students have settled confidently into our new routines.
In English, we have been exploring imaginative texts and sharing our responses thoughtfully. Students are learning to recount key details and express opinions about characters, using evidence from the text to support their ideas. We are also developing our use of topic-specific vocabulary to communicate preferences clearly and precisely. A continued focus has been on presenting our ideas to others using more formal language, while varying our tone and pace to suit our audience.
In Mathematics, we have been recognising, representing, and ordering two- and three-digit numbers using physical and virtual materials, numerals, and number lines. Our learning has focused on partitioning, regrouping, and renaming two- and three-digit numbers using both standard and non-standard groupings. We are exploring the important role of zero in place value notation and how it affects the value of a number.
We have also been practising locating and describing positions of features on a map, moving position by following directions and creating movement instructions to match a drawn pathway.
In Science, we have been exploring the question - How do the sun, moon, and stars create patterns in the sky? Students have shared their knowledge about the sun and the moon, and we are now discovering more about the planets. Here is a wonderful solar system created by Micah!
We are very proud of the positive start 2A has made to the year and look forward to the learning ahead!
