Principal's Message

Term 1 Week 6                                                                                                         13 February 2026

From the Principal

Hi Everyone,

NAPLAN is upon us next week, which is the National testing involving our Year 3 and 5 children.  NAPLAN is not something that you or your children need to worry about. Just like all tests/assessments, the message to all our children is, ‘do the best that you can.’  For children to do the best they can, there are some key elements: sleep is so important, eating nourishing food that fuels brains and bodies and being at school on time to minimise feeling disorganised.  As your child’s first teacher, please help them to do their best by supporting them to sleep well, eat well and be at school on time.

We have purchased sunscreen for our classrooms/school. Here is a photo of what it is.

Our teachers will not apply sunscreen to children or make them put it on, but they will offer it.  If you do not want your child using this type of sunscreen, please let them know not to put it on when offered.  Being sun safe is so important.

There are a couple of messages that I want to make clear this week but also ensure I am explaining why.

  • Have your child at school before the first bell in the morning please.  Imagine how distressed you would feel if you arrived to work knowing you are late. Children feel the same, stressed. Not only is your child stressed, when they enter a class late, they are disrupting a lesson.  This is not ok and is preventable.  Please have your children to school on time.

  • Parents staying behind after school in the morning and arriving early to pick their child up in the afternoon, has started to become a larger number.  Parents are often peering in their child’s classroom; this is not ok.  It is distracting for the children and off-putting for the teacher. Imagine someone watching you working through the window, I am thinking you might find it confronting.  So please, we know you miss your children but please leave our teachers and your children to do the job they have to do.

Thank you for supporting your children by supporting us.

Congratulations to all our STAR Students for Week 6. What an honour to be recognised in this way and you deserve it!

On Monday we have our P-3 Merit Assembly and we always look forward to seeing parents and families.

Our Year 1’s are very lucky next week and are having the STAR Lab Incursion.  I believe the night sky is being brought to us!  Enjoy it Year 1s and thank you to our fabulous Year 1 teaching team for organising it.

As previously mentioned on assembly, Harmony Day will be on Thursday 2nd April.

  • We are hoping the P&C can get enough support to pull off the International Breakfast that morning before school. Please email me on akell58@eq.edu.au if you would like to support and help with the P&C International Breakfast.

  • Please encourage kids to start thinking about what they will wear -  traditional clothing from their homeland or orange of some kind to represent the colour of harmony.

  • There will be an assembly in the morning -  comprising of the national anthem, Harmony Day awards (one/class) for a child in each class that promotes harmony through their words and actions, the Year 1-2 choir singing Everyone Belongs and of course, Our School Song.

  • After assembly, there will be a shared lunch -  parents and families are welcome to stay after assembly for this.  If a fine day, classes might like to choose a spot around the school for a picnic.

  • The International Talent Show will be in the middle session.  Parents are welcome to email me if your child wants to perform or email your child’s class teacher with the details.

  • In the afternoon session, there will be activities back in classrooms.

We are looking forward to a great day and hope to see you there!

Have a safe and wonderful week!

Yours in Education

Angie Kelly

P.S. As we have been receiving numerous questions regarding the Back to School Boost, it would be greatly appreciated if you could read the message below explaining the process.

To clarify the process for how the Back to School Boost (B2SB) is applied to your OneSchool account please see the following steps:

  • Parents have been sent a request to provide permission to apply the B2SB credit through QParents Consent.  Please provide consent through QParents. If you have not registered, please register with QParents or contact the office to provide consent via Admin@ironsidess.eq.edu.au.
  • Excursions/activities are generated and invoices are sent out automatically via email
  • Parents are to confirm attendance/non-attendance via the activity consent form in QParents
  • B2SB credits will be manually applied to your OneSchool account if you have provided consent.  Please note you do not need to send an email to apply the credit if consent has been granted
  • Office staff will monitor your account and contact you if your credit has been utilised and outstanding amounts are owing
  • Statements will be issued periodically, however please be reminded that B2SB cannot be used against any debt relating to 2025 or prior
