Capital Adventures: Year 5’s Canberra Trip

The last few days of Term 2 were filled with excitement as our Year 5 students set off for their much-anticipated Canberra Camp. 

From the moment they boarded the bus, there was plenty of buzz, laughter and one big question on everyone's mind: Who will my camp roommates be? Our fun bus driver, Bud, kept everyone smiling along the way. After a full first day of adventures, the long-awaited room reveal made the first evening one to remember!

Over three action-filled days, students visited the Museum of Australian Democracy, Parliament House, the National Zoo & Aquarium, Geoscience Australia, the National Library of Australia, the Australian War Memorial, the Australian Institute of Sport, the National Arboretum and Questacon. 

Each stop provided opportunities to learn, explore and create memories together.The National Zoo & Aquarium was a definite favourite. Students were brave enough to hold snakes and enjoyed up-close feeding experiences with alpacas, emus and playful otters.

At Parliament House, students stepped into the shoes of politicians during a lively role-play, debating and passing a bill just like the real Parliament. It was a fun and memorable way to experience Australia's democracy in action.

One of the most special moments of the trip was attending the Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial. Carson and Lily had the honour of laying a wreath on behalf of our school, representing our community with respect and maturity during this moving ceremony.

Questacon was another highlight, with students exploring interactive exhibits and discovering how much fun science can be. From sporting challenges at the Australian Institute of Sport to exploring the beautiful National Arboretum, there was never a dull moment.

The trip was filled with friendship, fun, learning and new experiences, and Year 5 returned home with wonderful memories that will be talked about for a long time to come.
