Principal's Report

Dear HPS Community,
No school for students Wednesday next week (12th August)!!
Principal's Day
Today, on Principals' Day, Helen, Monique and I have been truly overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown by our incredible Heidelberg Primary School community.
To our students, families and staff, thank you for your thoughtful messages, beautiful cards, heartfelt letters, colourful posters and many words of appreciation. Every gesture reminded us how fortunate we are to be part of such a caring and connected school community.
Leading Heidelberg Primary School is both a privilege and a responsibility that we never take for granted. Knowing that we are supported by such wonderful students, dedicated staff and engaged families makes our roles incredibly rewarding.
I often say that I am the proudest and luckiest principal in the world to be part of Heidelberg Primary School, and today was another reminder of exactly why I feel that way. The kindness, respect and genuine care that defines our school community is something truly special, and I feel incredibly privileged to lead such an amazing school alongside Helen and Monique.
A special thank you also to our amazing staff for the beautiful morning tea you organised today. It was a thoughtful surprise and greatly appreciated.
Helen, Monique and I have genuinely felt loved, valued and supported today, and we are incredibly grateful. Thank you for making Principals' Day so special and for the ongoing partnership we share in supporting every child to learn, grow and thrive.
Year 5 camp
A warm welcome back to our Year 5 students, who have returned from an incredible three-day camp at Alexandria Adventure Camp. From all reports, everyone had a fantastic time, with the Giant Swing and Flying Fox proving to be the standout favourite activities!
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff and wonderful parent volunteers for giving up their time to provide such a memorable experience for our students. These camps simply wouldn't be possible without your support, care and commitment.
Congratulations also to our Year 5 students, who represented Heidelberg Primary School with pride. They embraced every challenge, supported one another and, by all accounts, demonstrated our school values of Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Compassion throughout the camp.
And finally, to our Year 5 parents and carers... good luck with the mountain of washing and the tired campers this weekend! We hope everyone enjoys a well-earned rest after what sounds like an unforgettable few days.
Student Safety
The safety of our students is our highest priority, and we need the support of our entire community to help keep everyone safe during drop-off and pick-up each day.
Unfortunately, we have recently observed a number of parents and carers allowing their child/ren to quickly exit the vehicle while stopped in a line of traffic or by double parking beside other vehicles. While these actions may seem convenient, they are both unsafe and illegal.
When children exit a vehicle in moving or queued traffic, they are exposed to oncoming vehicles, visibility for other drivers is reduced, and the risk of a serious accident increases significantly.
We ask all parents and carers to please park your vehicle safely and legally before your child exits the car. Taking an extra moment to park correctly helps protect not only your own child but every child and family in our school community.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us create a safe environment for all students.
School Uniform
As the colder weather continues, we understand that winter can make it challenging to keep school uniforms washed, dried and ready to wear each day. We appreciate the efforts families make to ensure students arrive at school in the correct uniform, particularly during these wintery months.
Wearing the Heidelberg Primary School uniform is about much more than clothing. It helps foster a strong sense of belonging, school pride and team spirit. When students wear their uniform with pride, they demonstrate that they are part of a community built on our shared values of respect, responsibility, resilience and compassion. A consistent uniform also promotes equity and helps create a positive learning environment where everyone feels included.
We ask families to continue supporting their children to wear the correct school uniform each day. If your family is experiencing difficulties accessing or replacing uniform items, please don't hesitate to contact the school office or keep an eye out for upcoming second hand uniform sales. We are always happy to work with families to ensure every student can proudly represent Heidelberg Primary School.
Thank you for your ongoing support in helping our students take pride in themselves, their school and our wonderful community.
