From the Acting Head of Senior School

As we approach the end of what has been a dynamic and rewarding term, I would like to take a moment to congratulate our Senior School students for their commitment, enthusiasm, and contributions. This term has been filled with a variety of events that have showcased the talent and spirit of our students in a wide range of areas.
We began the term with the Inter-House Cross Country Competition, where students showed incredible determination and House spirit. It was a joy to witness the camaraderie, personal bests, and cheers echoing across the course – a testament to the perseverance and resilience that defines our senior students. Congratulations to Aherne House for winning for the second consecutive year.
Our Foundation Day Service reminded us of the rich history and values on which our school was built. It was a thoughtful and moving event, encouraging us to reflect on the school’s history and the legacy we are shaping for future generations of Girtonians.
The House Singing Competition was, once again, an unforgettable highlight. The creativity, energy, and musical talent on display was fantastic. Whether harmonising in tune or dancing in time, our students demonstrated how collaboration and a shared goal can bring out the best in everyone. The judges were tasked with a difficult decision, but ultimately selected Jenkin House as the worthy winners.
Exam Week brought with it a range of challenges, and I want to acknowledge the composure and dedication our students showed throughout. It was a valuable opportunity for our students to demonstrate their level of understanding of the topics covered in Semester One.
Most recently, many students have been involved on or behind the stage as part of our Production and taking to the court or field as part of our representative teams for the ICCES Winter Tour. All students who have been part of these significant events on our calendar are thanked for their commitment and passion. We also thank the staff who have supported students in these events, as there have been many hours put in behind the scenes to ensure the success of both the Production and the Winter Tour.
As we close this second term of 2025, I thank all students for their energy, dedication and positive attitude. Whether on the field or the stage, in the classroom, or supporting peers behind the scenes, you have made this term a great success. I look forward to what the next term holds and encourage you all to rest well and return with renewed focus and enthusiasm.
