From the Principal's Desk

I am pleased to be joining Lara Secondary College this week as your Acting Principal. It is a genuine privilege to become part of a community with such a sense of pride, aspiration and shared commitment. I am looking forward to getting started. 

Over the last few days, I have begun to learn more about the school. A strong sense of connectedness is evident across the community and an outstanding array of opportunities is provided for students to discover and build upon their strengths. The school’s Academy programs, the instrumental program, embedded wellbeing provision and academic support and extension programs speak to the investment the school makes in helping students achieve their potential. 

It has also been fantastic this week to get to know the senior leadership team and hear about their deep commitment to a wide range of initiatives already in action to help extend and challenge our students. At the heart of our work is a simple but powerful goal - to ensure every student is known, supported and challenged to achieve their very best. This means a continued focus on excellent classroom practice, clear and consistent high expectations and a culture where effort, respect and growth are visible every day. I look forward to building upon this important work. 

Over the next few weeks I’ll also be starting to get to know our students and the broader community. Walking around the school I’ve been impressed by the calm climate, the focus in classrooms and the respectful way in which students are interacting. When families and schools work in partnership, it helps support students’ commitment to doing their best alongside their peers. It was great to see so many families supporting the rugby on Tuesday - the intensity of the match was impressive. 

A huge thank you to everyone I’ve met so far. Your warm welcome is much appreciated and I’m looking forward to contributing to the next stage of the college’s journey.
