Performing Arts and Community Update
The Mercy Place Aged Care Reading Buddy Program continues to be a valuable and rewarding experience for our students this term. On Monday, it was 2SM’s turn to visit Mercy Place and the students enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with the residents. This program provides students with a wonderful opportunity to interact with older members of the community, develop their conversation skills and build confidence in reading aloud. Students work in pairs or small groups, taking turns reading with residents and discussing the stories together. It has been wonderful to see the meaningful connections being formed between students and residents through shared conversations and a love of reading.
School Production: Our musical is starting to take shape, with students across all year levels approaching rehearsal time with energy and dedication. The Main Ensemble Cast continues to amaze us with their creativity and enthusiasm as they bring their characters to life. We also extend our ongoing thanks to our dedicated team of staff and parent helpers, who continue to work tirelessly across a wide range of areas behind the scenes to help make our production a success.
Costumes for Main Ensemble Cast: Students in the Main Ensemble Cast will be bringing home a list of their personalised costume requirements this week. Please feel free to contact our Costume Coordinator, Mrs Ann Easton (aeaston@spmentone.catholic.edu.au) or myself (swilliams@spmentone.catholic.edu.au) if you have any questions.
Key Dates:
- 1st Rehearsal (School): Monday 22 June
- Full Dress Rehearsal (School): Monday 27 July
- Performance Day: Thursday 6 August, 7:00pm (Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University)
Costume accessories will be provided by the school and will remain at school.
Makeup:
- No stage makeup is to be worn at either dress rehearsal.
- For performances, stage makeup is optional for Prep - Year 6 and, if worn, should be applied at home; it helps ensure faces and expressions are visible under bright stage lights.
- Main Ensemble Cast: selected characters will receive additional makeup at the theatre - details will be shared later this term. These students should arrive with a simple base already applied at home, ready for enhancement by staff.
