On Tuesday, the students who are preparing to make their First Holy Communion next month, participated in a special Eucharist Retreat Day.  Throughout the day, students engaged in a variety of meaningful activities designed to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist and strengthen their relationship with Jesus.

The retreat provided opportunities for students to pray together, meditate quietly and reflect on the great gift of the Eucharist. Through discussions and hands-on activities, students explored the signs, symbols and sacred rituals of the Mass.

Students learnt about the gestures and actions used by the priest during the celebration of the Eucharist and examined the special articles placed on the altar, discovering their purpose and significance within the Mass.

One of the highlights of the day was making unleavened bread, similar to the bread Jesus shared with His disciples at the Last Supper. This experience helped students make a meaningful connection to the Gospel account of Jesus instituting the Eucharist and gave them a deeper appreciation of the sacred meal we celebrate at Mass.

Students also spent time learning more about the person of Jesus — His love, compassion and invitation to each of us to draw closer to Him. Through prayer, storytelling, craft and reflection, students were reminded that the Eucharist is not simply a symbol, but a special encounter with Jesus Himself, who calls each and every one of them into relationship with Him.

During the week students were also given the opportunity to visit the parish church to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation with Fr Justin and Fr Joe. This was a very special and prayerful experience for the students as they reflected on God’s love, mercy and forgiveness. Through the sacrament, students were reminded that God is always ready to welcome us with compassion and help us make good choices in our lives. Receiving Reconciliation before First Holy Communion is an important step in their sacramental journey, helping them prepare their hearts to encounter Jesus more deeply in the Eucharist. We thank Fr Justin and Fr Joe for supporting our students so warmly during this important milestone in their faith journey.

We thank the staff, Fr Justin and Fr Joe,  and families who continue to support our students on this important sacramental journey. Please continue to keep our Year 3 students, and those from year 5 and 6,  in your prayers as they prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucharist for the very first time.
