Year 4 Update

Year 4 Update
It has been a busy start to Term 2 for our Year 4 students. They are eager to engage and work together on a range of challenging and engaging learning activities across the curriculum areas. Students have shown resilience and responsibility in the way they have approached their learning.
Learning in English by Yenuli Liyanage
In English this term, we have been reading a book called Tishkin Silk and writing narratives. Tishkin Silk is about a boy named Griffin who has seven sisters (the rainbow girls) and a friend called Layla. He has a big secret and is waiting for his mum and baby sister to arrive home. It has been a great book so far!
For our narratives, we have been looking at different pictures and making plans by inspecting them and then writing them fully as narratives! We are working on making interesting characters and describing the setting using adjectives and descriptive language. English this term has been so fun and interesting. All of us grade fours want to take more of a deep dive into making our own characters and reading different books!!!!
Learning in Maths by Emerson Hoath
For the past few weeks, we have been learning multiplication. We have been taught lots of different mental strategies by our teachers. We have practiced the box strategy, the vertical algorithm, and the area model. We have learnt about measurement, including area and perimeter. We have been using rulers and trundle wheels to measure distances and how far we can throw bean bags on the oval.
Do it For Dolly Day by Eva Dahiya
This week, the whole school has been learning about Dolly and how to end bullying. On Tuesday, Dave from Dolly’s Dream came to speak to us and teach us about Dolly’s dream. Dolly wanted to end bullying because she had been bullied, and she did not want other people to be bullied. On Friday, we are going to wear blue clothes and bring a gold coin donation for Dolly’s Dream to help raise money for Dolly’s Dream.
