Year 3 Update

Everything is as fun as can be, when you are in Year 3!

Term 2 has started with a very busy schedule for us in Year 3! The students have all returned with a great learning attitude and have been exceptional during all of our learning tasks.

We have launched back into all of our learning programs and have continued making positive progress in both the academic and social elements of our learning!

A huge welcome back to Mrs Barley who had an absolute blast in Europe with her family!

In English, we have begun the term with a unit on Fractured Fairytales - all about other versions of well known Fairytales and stories told from another characters point of view. Stories like: The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig, Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Book and Goldilocks and just the One Bear. The students have enjoyed comparing the stories to their original versions as well as exploring some deep dives into the different characters in the books we have read. We look forward to our Health unit all about building great relationships and our diversity and our first novel for the year in Kensuke’s Kingdom!

Our students have demonstrated some pleasing progress in their morpheme knowledge from our Word Origins program during our Core Literacy sessions! There have also been some really positive noticeable improvements in both their handwriting and fluency!

In Numeracy, we have begun the term exploring data and creating frequency tables and graphs during our Statistics unit. We are currently working through our Place Value unit learning about numbers that go up to and beyond 10 000 with our most recent work on how to say these larger numbers. A key activity that the students enjoyed was making Place Value Houses that allowed them to understand the value of each digit within a number. In the coming weeks the students will be working through the units of Probability, Fractions and Time.

With camp just around the corner, students have been working hard to demonstrate our school values and build friendships with all students within our classes and across the cohort. We can’t wait for camp next Monday and Tuesday and are looking forward to sharing with everyone our amazing experiences!

During our Social and Emotional Learning sessions, we have been exploring our organisational skills of making sure we’re both looking after our materials and checking regularly that we have everything we need to be ready to learn.

A special incursion from Dolly’s Dream highlighted for us all the importance of understanding what bullying looks like, sounds like and feels like and the vital step of doing something about it if we are ever bullied.

In Year 3 Sport, we have been really enjoying our house based challenges with everyone working together in our houses to try and get the points each week. Our first game was silent mats before the students completed a practice session on our house Dodgeball competition and look forward to our competition next week to see who is the best house at Dodgeball!
