Year 7 News

Term 3 has been an exciting and significant milestone for our Year 7 students as they officially transitioned into their new learning environment. The move has provided a wonderful opportunity to establish positive routines, strengthen our sense of community and create a learning space where every student feels safe, supported and ready to succeed.

Over the course of the term, our focus has been on helping students develop the habits and behaviours that contribute to a calm, respectful and productive learning environment. From classroom entry routines and caring for our facilities to wearing the correct uniform and demonstrating respectful interactions with peers, students have continued to build a strong understanding of our shared expectations. We are incredibly proud of how well the vast majority of our Year 7 students have embraced these routines and the pride they are showing in their new building.

As with any new beginning, there have been valuable learning opportunities along the way. Students have worked together to take ownership of their learning spaces by helping to keep classrooms clean and tidy, respecting school property and understanding the importance of looking after our new facilities. We have also continued to reinforce our expectations around appropriate behaviour, including respectful communication, positive peer relationships and responsible decision-making both inside and outside the classroom.

A particular focus this term has been building a culture of kindness and belonging. Our staff have been working proactively with students to reinforce that respectful interactions are an expectation, not an option. Through classroom conversations, restorative practices and ongoing support from the Year 7 Team, students are continuing to develop the social skills that will help them thrive throughout secondary school.

Strong partnerships between home and school remain an important part of every student’s success. As Semester 2 commenced, many families received introductory emails from teachers outlining learning programs and classroom expectations. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by checking in regularly with their child about their learning, organisation and wellbeing.
