We are celebrating Children's Book Week 2026 with a ‘Symphony of Stories’! This year marks the 80th anniversary of the CBCA Book of the Year Awards. Since 1946, we've celebrated the incredible creators who inspire curiosity, nurture empathy and bring unforgettable stories to our young readers. The students will be inspired throughout the week with CBCA books and the many activities that we have planned.

To celebrate book week, we will have a variety of activities running during the week.

Book Swap Surprise: Students are invited to wrap a preowned book in paper (reused paper, newspaper/recycled paper) and swap it for another book from the collection. This way we are sharing and recycling our books.

The categories will be Junior Picture Book, 3-6 Fiction and there will be a Non Fiction Section. Please label the book you are bringing with its category.

‘Guess the Shredding’ and ‘Which book is this?: There will be two jars in the library with Book remnants in them. (I assure no books will be harmed in the process). Children may study the jars and make a guess as to the book title when classes visit the library for library borrowing during Book Week.

Junior School Scavenger Hunt: The junior classes will participate in a scavenger hunt in the passive play area, using their eagle eyes to search for Book Week characters amongst the buildings, flora and furniture.

Fun at the Book Week Parade

St John's Book Week Dress Up Day and Parade was held on Monday, 24 August in the Coghlan Centre. Students came along dressed up as their favourite book characters sharing in the excitement of the day. Congratulations on the variety of costumes and the great enthusiasm from every class!
