Sunday's Gospel - Who Do You Say I am?
Matthew 16:13-20
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter responds, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus then gives Peter a special role in His Church, saying, “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church.” Just as a rock provides strength and stability, Peter was called to be a strong foundation for the early Church. This Gospel invites us too to consider who Jesus is for us and how we can be a steady and faithful presence for others.
Wonderings for our families
- Who do I say Jesus is? What does Jesus mean to me in my everyday life?
- Peter recognised Jesus as “the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” What helps us recognise Jesus in our own lives?
- Jesus called Peter “the rock.” What makes someone a person others can rely on?
- Where might God be asking me to be strong, courageous and faithful, like Peter?
- How can we be a steady “rock” for someone else when they are finding things difficult?
- What gifts, strengths or courage has God given me that I can use to help others?
I wonder… if Jesus asked me, “Who do you say that I am?”, what would I say?
Sacrament of Confirmation
It was truly wonderful to see the reverence and joy our students brought to their Confirmation on Saturday. They entered the church with their Baptismal candles, reminding us of the important connection between Baptism and Confirmation and they renewed the promises their parents and godparents made for them many years ago. As Bishop Les blessed each student with the oil of Chrism and laid hands upon them, our students proudly shared the names of the saints who inspire them in their faith journey.
Our students’ banners, stained-glass windows and candles helped create a warm and prayerful atmosphere as our school and parish community came together to celebrate this important sacrament. It was especially lovely to see many past students and their families return to celebrate alongside our current families, reminding us that we are part of a faith community that continues to grow as we journey together.
We give heartfelt thanks to Anton and his family for leading us in such uplifting music, and to Mrs Farrar, Mrs Bayliss and Marisa for the time, care and preparation they give our students. It was a truly special celebration of faith, community and the journey of our young people.
Tuesday Class Masses
Nearly every Tuesday selected classes join the parishioners at the 10am morning mass. We would love you to join us to support the students as they connect with our parish community.
