Student Achievements

Congratulations to the following students:
Hal Cormack (Year 11),who has been shortlisted for the Young Tasmanian Writers' Prize 2025. Open to young writers across Tasmania, the prize celebrates emerging talent and creative excellence in short fiction.
Hal's story, Little Ollie's Bedtime, was selected from over 100 entries. The story will be published in the Forty South Anthology, a professionally produced collection that enjoys a wide readership and provides a valuable platform for emerging writers to showcase their work.
This is an outstanding achievement for Hal and a well-deserved recognition of her talent and creativity. Her writing journey is only just beginning, and we can't wait to see where it takes her next!
Finalists will be honoured at an event hosted by the City of Hobart on World Literacy Day, Monday 8 September 2025, where winners will be announced by the Lord Mayor. Good luck, Hal!
April Direen (Year 8), who recently took part in the Junior Development Day fire brigade competition as a volunteer with the Margate Fire Brigade. The event involved a series of practical and team-based challenges, including hose drills, first aid scenarios, teamwork exercises, burn-over procedures and radio communications.
April's team performed exceptionally well, placingsecond out of 10 brigades – what a fantastic achievement! Looking ahead, April and her fellow team members will be representing their brigade in Launceston this November, competing against teams from across Tasmania. We wish her the best of luck and look forward to hearing more about the challenge.
India Blyth (Year 6), who raised the bar in gymnastics at the Junior Team Spirit North competition held in Devonport.
A talented Level 5 gymnast, India competed against clubs from across Tasmania and delivered an outstanding performance.
Her team took home gold overall, and she achieved:
- 1st place – beam
- 1st place – floor routine
- 1st place – bars
- 2nd place – vault
We are so proud of India's achievements and the dedication she brings to her sport. With the state championships coming up in September, we wish her all the best as she wraps up the final round of competitions for the year.
