Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony

On February 18th, Thornbury High School had the privilege of participating in a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony. Led by Elder Colin Hunter Jnr Jnr from the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, this ceremony offered us an important opportunity to reflect on the rich history and culture of the land upon which we gather.
The ceremony served as a reminder of the traditional custodians of the land and helped deepen our understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture. We extend our sincere thanks to Colin Hunter the 4th for guiding us through this powerful and moving experience.
We also wish to express our appreciation to Nathaniel, a Year 12 student, who expertly MC'd the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly. A special mention goes to students Jedah Wickey, Shi Bamblet, and Tiara Smith (Nunkeri Tiddas), whose powerful dance performance to Christina Anu's My Island Home added a beautiful touch to the ceremony. Thanks also go to Regina Edwards for her acknowledgement and setting everything up on the day.
