Literacy:

In Literacy we have taken a deep dive into Fox, written by Margret Wilde and Ron Brooks.

Whilst reading the story students were encouraged to make predictions and focus on the various word and phrasing choices the author made when writing the story and how these choices affected the story telling. In Week 7 our Reading focus will center on cautionary tales and their meanings. Again, students will be identifying unknown words and phrases and discovery their definitions and meanings.

Students Writing focus for the two weeks will center around the correct use of talking marks. They will also be identifying how the author Margret Wilde and Ron Brooks developed the story Fox.  Students will then complete a writing piece that continues on from the end of the story.

Numeracy:

In Numeracy, we have been refining our decimal understanding and learning all about the relationship between fractions and decimals! The Level 4 students have been building on their place value understanding by recognising decimal notation and being able to understand what a tenth and hundredth represents by using grids, number lines, and diagrams. We extended our understanding further by revising addition and subtraction skills and working to add or subtract decimals. Perhaps you could start to see how decimals and fractions are all around us! Where could you use or see decimals and fractions at home?

Inquiry:

For our Term 1 Inquiry focus on 'Health', we have been thinking deeper about our healthy habits, and what health means to us as unique individuals. We have been looking at what makes a community safe, healthy, and active, and how we are surrounded with health initiatives in the wider community. We looked at health messages around us and how we can utilise local areas and community groups to support our health. One way we can promote health and wellbeing is by creating our own Health Promotion Posters!

Specialists:

Level 4 Specialists this year have been split into 2 groups - the Suns and the Stars. Students have 3 specialist classes every Tuesday and then one specialist on Wednesday or Thursday. We are still working on the 'ins and outs' but so far so good. Below is our week in icons that the students see on our daily timetable in the classroom.
