Around the School

Last week at assembly, our Grade 5 students proudly introduced their buddies and shared how they have been supporting them throughout the Term. Since the beginning of Term, the Grade 5s have taken great care in helping their buddies settle into school life and feel welcomed and comfortable at St. Mary’s.
We have also begun creating a special book highlighting the important places around St Mary’s that are part of our everyday school lives which we are excited to share with you soon!
Below, we have outlined the different ways we each help and support our buddies:
| Pearl | I love having a buddy because we get to look after them and do buddy activities every Monday after lunch. My buddy is Letti. |
| Austin | My buddy’s, Sacha and Reuben, are fun because they are always up to do something challenging or/but exciting. |
| Anthony B | I like helping my buddy Gabriel make new friends and play with him. |
| Isla | I love my buddy Audrey in all different ways but the thing that stands out the most is all the fun games she thinks of. |
| Max | I love my buddy Tate because he is really fun to play with. There is always a smile on his face and he is always making fun games we can play. |
| Braxson | I teach my buddies Aaron and Reuben how to read and pronounce words and we play tag. |
| Anthony L | My buddy’s names are London and Tj. I always help them by playing with them and helping them to do the right thing and to respect the school norms. My buddies are kind and loving and I am lucky because they were chosen for me. |
| Bella | My buddy’s name is Ally. I help her by respecting and helping her classmate in St Mary's school norms. |
| Alyssa | My buddy’s name is Leilani and I love her as my buddy because she is very funny and has a creative personality. I also like having responsibilities. |
| Polly | My buddy’s names are Delilah and Josie and I help them by helping them make friends and follow the school norms. |
| April | My buddy’s name is Candice and I help her by finding her someone to play with at play time. |
| Atharv | I help my buddy Emilio by helping him during play time and by not scream in the playground |
| Noel | I help my buddy Archie by telling how to be respectful, responsible and safe on the playground. |
| Bella | My buddy is Ally. I help her by teaching her to be respectful to her classmates and teacher. |
| Athira | I help my buddy Aster by supporting her when she misses her mom. |
| Lucas | I help my buddy Hugo to build in the zen zone. |
| Olivia | I help my buddy Ally by helping her find her friends and help her make more friends. |
| Amelia | I really enjoy spending time with by buddy Naomi and love playing games with her during recess. |
LIBRARY NEWS
HELLO! This is Miss Kat, excited to be reporting to you directly from, yes you guessed it the library! This week has seen the first of our standing order arrivals! Thrilled to be putting new picture books on the shelves and some fresh non fiction! I will keep these new books separate to start with to show the classes each week. Some will be saved for their storytime soon they will be available to go home.
Thank you so much to everyone who has ordered from the book club magazine. The small percentage that the school receives from these purchases adds up. I can use it for books that won't be included in our subscription missing series books, replacing older books, getting duplicates of popular reads and the like. The portal has now been closed, books ordered and will soon be on their way. This usually takes close to two weeks. Keep an eye on your email if applicable scholastic will send through a voucher to your email and I'll let you know in the newsletter when the next book club is. There are usually two per Term. I only distribute magazines once per Term, but you can always access the portal to order via the LOOP email to make use of your voucher. Please email me with any questions.
Library sessions this year look like this:
Year 2, 3 & 4 Tuesday
Year 1 & Prep Wednesdays
Year 5 & 6 Thursday
Thank you for your support in assisting with library bag reminders and helping find lost books at home.
I am really throwing out the challenge to all our students this year but particularly the senior school to really look outside 'their wheelhouse' and encouraging them to find new authors and to 'carry on reading!' We have such a great selection of books in our space - there really is something for everyone.
Happy Reading,
Miss Kat
