INFORMATION & REMINDERS

 

Personal Belongings:

We are seeing an increase in personal belongings like footy cards, teddies, remote controlled cars and toys being bought to school. We strongly encourage students to leave these items at home as at times they can cause distress when they become lost or damaged and can distract students from learning time.

 

Permission and Payment:

Just a reminder to please check that you have given permission and payment for the upcoming excursions. You can check on Sentral for any you might have missed. 

 

Reminders: 

Students will commence gymnastics at Eclipse every Thursday for the first 5 weeks of term. Parent helpers have already been notified via email - thank you in advance for your support. 

 

Social Stories: 

As part of ensuring your child has a smooth transition taking the bus and preparing for gymnastics, we have prepared a social story which is accessible on your child's Showbie account. 

CURRICULUM

Literacy

UFLI: Grade One Students

This week, Grade One students will be learning the spelling patterns  Long vowel sounds when two consonants follow after i.e old, ild, olt. We will also explore y replacing i at the end of a word e.g fly, sky. 

 

UFLI: Grade Two Students

This week, Grade Two students will be learning  our, ow /ow/ and the various words we find those spelling patterns in. We will also explore Vowel teams and Diphthong review. 

 

 

What can you do at home?

  • Optional UFLI Home Practice pages found in their home learning book.

 

 

Mentor Text: The Variety of Life

Students will begin exploring our new CBL topic of Power with the book The Variety of Life by Nicola Davies and Lorna Scobie. Students will investigate the features of a non-fiction text, including the contents page, headings, photographs, captions, and glossary. They will also build their vocabulary by learning and using new topic words from the text.

 

What can you do at home?

Look at non-fiction texts at home and discuss its features - diagram, heading, sub-headings, contents page, glossary, key, label. How is this different to a fiction text?  

Maths

Grade One Students

This week, Grade One students will continue exploring length. They will compare and measure the length of objects and shapes using informal units, investigate why using the same unit is important, and learn how different informal units can affect measurements.

 

What can you do at home?

  • Continue using MathsSeeds.
  • Find objects around the house and compare their lengths using informal units such as blocks, paperclips, or toy cars.
  • Ask your child to estimate which object is longer before measuring, then check their prediction by measuring with the same informal unit.

 

Grade Two Students 

This week, Grade Two students will continue exploring multiplication and division. They will investigate how doubling can help solve multiplication problems, write repeated addition equations, and use skip counting strategies to find answers.

 

What can you do at home?

  • Continue using Mathletics.
  • Practise skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s while walking, driving, or completing everyday tasks.
  • Play doubling games by asking your child to quickly double numbers from 0–10 (e.g. "What is double 7?"). Encourage them to explain how they worked out the answer.

SWPBS

This week in Grades 1 / 2 , students will practice walking quietly through the school grounds which align with our School Wide Positive Behaviour expectations of transitioning through the school in a kind, orderly way.

 

 

What can you do at home?

  • Talk with your child about why it is important to walk quietly around the school. Maybe a parent works from home occasionally? How does this relate to walking around the school in a quiet, respectful manner?

CBL

Our Big Idea for Term Three is Power. 

This week, students will begin preparing for their trip to the Melbourne Zoo - July 25th. This will be delivered through virtual maps of the zoo, social stories and conversations with their peers.
