Acting Principal's Message

Welcome back to another school year. We have had a wonderful week welcoming back our beautiful students and families to George Street. We have started the year by focusing upon revising our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. With our focus value for the week showing all the ways that we can show Responsibility at school. We have also begun to re-learn our new morning and break time line-up areas, all now located on the front basketball court.
Welcome to our new preps and new student families. It has been a privilege to be able to work with our new young people. I have been working with the preps in particular and have been loving getting to know them all.
We have also begun to practice our joint lunch eating where the classes combine and eat undercover together before moving off to play. The students have done this in such a positive way, staff are incredibly proud with how the students have adapted to this.
We would like to welcome our newest members of staff, Ms Ferguson, who is teaching in Grades Prep- Two. Ms Ferguson brings with her a wealth of knowledge and is a very welcome addition to our staffing. We also welcome Elise and Kellie this term. Elise and Kellie have been working some casual days last year as Education Support, however we are very lucky to have them join our regular staffing for term one. Both Elise and Kellie have had experience working with children/ in education and also bring great skills to our staffing group. We also welcomed Ms McMillan back to George street at the end of last year. She has returned from her big adventure at Uluru to teach the 5/6 cohort.
As it was released via the department this week, we acknowledge Al and Tina Walkeden. Both have worked very hard for the George Street community and have completed their time here. We wish them well as they move onto their next adventure. We would also like to wish another staff member all the best as she moves into the next chapter or adventure as Jodie takes some time off to welcome her new baby in the coming months. We will miss her terribly however know she will be enjoying those baby cuddles and will be back when the time is right.
We would also like to congratulate Mr Barker and his wife on the birth of their beautiful baby girl Nora over the school holidays. He is on leave currently to enjoy all those baby snuggles and we will welcome him back in term two.
Thank you all for helping your children have the best start to school, I know those bedtimes routine can be challenging to re-establish after such a long time away. Keep slowly working towards bringing that bedtime back in earlier so our students can get the most out of their day.
