Italian Week 

This week, we were delighted to celebrate Italian Week, a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our EREA Touchstone of Inclusive Community. Additionally, the Italian culture, and the many benefits of learning an additional language. In an increasingly connected world, the ability to communicate across cultures is a valuable skill that extends far beyond vocabulary and grammar. 

Learning another language strengthens problem-solving skills, enhances memory, and improves cognitive flexibility. Students who study languages learn to think in different ways, recognise patterns, and develop a greater appreciation for the diversity of our world. 

Perhaps even more importantly, language learning helps nurture empathy and emotional intelligence. As students explore another language, they gain insight into different cultures, traditions, perspectives, and ways of communicating. This encourages them to see the world through the eyes of others, developing understanding, compassion, and respect for people whose experiences may be different from their own. Learning how language shapes thoughts and feelings also help students become better listeners, more effective communicators, and more emotionally aware individuals. 

Throughout the week, students have enjoyed a range of engaging activities that have brought Italian culture and language to life. Highlights have included Year 6 students making fresh pasta, a visit from a gelato van, exciting Italian games, and a fun-filled daily quiz that challenged students' knowledge of Italy and its rich culture. Our Year 5 students also put on a special Italian song performance at assembly, showcasing both their enthusiasm and growing confidence in learning the language. 

A special thank you to Junior School Italian teacher, Ms Miriam Dell’Oro, for her hard work in coordinating and preparing this week of celebration. Her dedication and enthusiasm have created wonderful learning opportunities for our students and helped make Italian Week such a memorable experience. We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing students embrace the joy of learning Italian while celebrating the diversity, culture, and connections that language learning brings.

Spelling Bee

Last Wednesday, six Junior School boys represented the College at the CEWA Regional Spelling Bee. Each boy should be very proud of his efforts to progress through the preliminary stage at school, before participating in the final held at St Peter’s Primary Catholic School.  

Patrick Lin from Year 5 was awarded the champion, which is an outstanding effort. Congratulations, Patrick. In Year 6, Lucas Santo came runner- up champion, also an excellent achievement.  

Well done to Oliver Sherborne and Leo Rodino (Year 4) Seve Scali (Year 5), Ruhaan Kohli (Year 6) who also represented the College with pride.  

Year 4 Christian Service Bake Sale  

This week, our Year 4 students did a wonderful job hosting their Christian Service Bake Sale. Thanks to their enthusiasm and hard work, they raised valuable funds for their chosen Christian Service charity, Wheelchairs for Kids. 

A special thank you goes to our Year 4 families for their generous support in providing such a fantastic variety of delicious baked goods. Your contributions helped make the event a great success. 

As always, the bake sale was a hit with students and staff alike, who were delighted to enjoy some tasty morning tea treats while supporting a worthy cause. We are proud of our Year 4 students for their commitment to helping others and making a positive difference in the community. 

Telethon Bake Sale Connection

Running alongside our Year 4 Christian Service Bake Sale was a special fundraising effort by student Josh Goodwin, who hosted a bake sale in support of Telethon in memory of his late brother, Winnie. Josh's inspiring initiative highlighted the power of compassion, generosity and community spirit, with funds raised to support children and families across Western Australia. 

Together with our Year 4 fundraiser for Wheelchairs for Kids, the day was a wonderful reminder of how our school community comes together to support meaningful causes and make a positive difference in the lives of others. 

Year 4 Rugby Carnival 

Our Year 4 boys had a fantastic time at this week's Rugby Carnival against Aquinas, putting their newly acquired skills into practice following their participation in the Rugby WA clinics. In beautiful sunny conditions, the students displayed great enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day. 

A big thank you to the parents who generously volunteered their time to assist, as well as the staff who helped make the event a success. Special thanks to Mr Thompson for his coordination and organisation of the carnival. 

We are very fortunate to have opportunities such as these carnivals with Aquinas, which provide valuable preparation for students as they begin their journey into JPSSA sporting competitions in Year 5 and beyond. Well done to all the boys on their excellent efforts and positive representation of the College. 

Year 5 Camp 

As our Year 5 boys and many Junior School staff prepare to depart for Camp, I wish them a safe and enjoyable time. We look forward to hearing about all the positive experiences and memories created when they return on Thursday.  

Reminder Medication Drop-Off 

Year 5 Camp – Medication Handover  

Our Year 5 Camp medication drop-off process will be the same for both prescription and non-prescription medications. The only difference is the day on which medication needs to be handed in, as prescription medications require a handover directly to the Camp Nurse. 

Prescription Medication – Tuesday 22 September, 7.30 am 

The Camp Nurse will be on site in the STEM Room from 7.30 am to receive and conduct the prescription medication handover. This applies to students who require prescription medication or have more complex medical needs. 

For all medications, please ensure that the required medication details are clearly recorded in both Consent2Go and the Medical Authorisation Form linked.Medication Authorisation Form
