Round the Classes - Specialist Teachers
Indonesian: Ibu Susan
In Indonesian Jaya's students have been busy learning Indonesian numbers to ten. They are doing a fabulous job!
The younger classes have written sentences about what they can see using our focus words for this term. They have also learnt all about the unusual little primates called tarsiers.
Katie's class read a story about Stripes the orphaned Sumatran tiger and created lovely pictures.
Stephen's students have completed their posters all about orangutans using Canva and they look great!
The older classes have finished making their quizzes on orangutans. I am amazed at how much they have learnt. We also enjoyed watching Orangutan Jungle School which follows orphaned orangutans as they learn essential survival skills to be reintroduced into the wild. The students have completed their topic on hobbies, using key words to build sentences focusing on Indonesian word order.
PE: Troy
It has been a busy and exciting month in PE!
Our primary students have recently finished their table tennis unit, where they learnt the rules for both singles and doubles and developed the skills to score their own games independently. It has been fantastic to see students growing in confidence, taking ownership of their learning, and supporting each other as they played and practised together.
In the Early Years, students have continued building their fundamental movement skills, with a focus on kicking and revisiting throwing and catching. A highlight has been students recording their skills during station activities and then watching the videos back to reflect on their progress and receive feedback. This has been a great way for students to become more aware of their learning and has also helped guide the next steps in our teaching, allowing for more targeted practice and support in key skill areas.
It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm, effort and growth students are showing in PE.
HASS: Izzy
To finish the term in HASS students across the school have been engaging in researching, investigating and creating to present their learning. In the middle and upper primary classes, students have been focusing on Civics and Citizenship, and have presented their learning in a range of ways. In Year 5/6, students worked individually or in small groups to choose an issue in the community that was important to them. They then researched to find a potential solution as well as to find out who might be able to help the issue. Finally, they wrote a letter which will be sent to the relevant person or group. We are looking forward to getting some responses next term! The Year 3/4s and 2/3s were asked to explore and research about local government including services and spaces that help people. Students first designed their own version of a space or service in the community (e.g. library, park, play space, community garden) and then created a representation of it.
In Years 1 and 2, classes have been learning about the past, including how things have changed in daily life and technology. Students have explored what is different in how people communicate, play, travel and live. In Year 1, students were able to explore games from the past by looking at how they work and making their own.
In the Reception classes, we have been exploring celebrations and special events, including why and how we celebrate, and how different people and groups celebrate different things. Students designed their own celebration or special event and then created a representation of this using various materials.
It has been a busy term, and I am looking forward to seeing even more great learning in Term 4!
Science: Paige
The past few weeks students have been enthusiastically finalising their learning about our Earth and its place in our solar system. We have completed some practical activities and shared new learning through presentations and displays.
Gardening: Jo
The students finished the recycling topic, they are on the look out for contamination (non compostables) in the green bins and are familiar with what can and cannot be recycled. There are some recycled items hanging on the school fence that have been planted with pansies, keeping a few items out of hard rubbish. Each group made a different pastry item- spinach triangles, pinwheels and apple pastries. Informally practicing their procedural writing skills as they write up the recipe and reflect on the process.
