It continues to be a very busy time in the cocurricular calendar.
I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the efforts of all involved in providing performing arts opportunities, athletics carnivals, summer registration, grading, and pre-season preparations as we approach the end of an already busy term.
I also recognise the work of our IT support team along with Mrs Merryn Dodd and our convenors in preparing our Cocurricular Colour Awards Ceremony that occurred at The Concourse on Tuesday. Huge thanks go to all involved.
I also thank the staff, students and parents who assisted with running the invitational athletics carnival last Saturday under the direction of Miss Riley Gilbert.
As we approach the end of term, registrations for most of our summer sports have now closed, we are finalising coaching allocations, and draws are taking shape. We will publish draws in Woodchatta as they become available. Draws will also appear in Clipboard and continue to be published on a weekly basis as the season unfolds.
We wish our athletes all the very best in their final invitational carnival at SOPAC this weekend as the prepare for the ISA Carnival occurring on Tuesday of next week. We also wish our district cricketers the best of luck as they commence their season this Saturday.

Athletics
Athletics Invitational Carnival
On Saturday 5 September, our athletes attended the second Athletics Invitational Carnival of the season at ES Marks Athletics Field, hosted by Shore and Pius.
It was a hugely successful day, with great weather creating the perfect setting for our students to demonstrate their skills and enjoy the challenge of interschool competition. These carnivals are invaluable in helping our athletes gain experience, build confidence and prepare for the ISA Athletics competition next week.
A job well done to Miss Riley Gilbert for convening the field events and ensuring the day ran smoothly.
Well done to all of our athletes who competed on the day. Your effort, commitment and sportsmanship were fantastic to see.
A special thank you to Mr Scott Steinman and our coaching team for their continued support of the squad and for providing our athletes with valuable and timely feedback throughout the day.
Finally, a sincere thank you to all of our staff, parent and student volunteers who generously gave up their time to support the carnival across the various field events. Their contribution was invaluable, and the day simply could not have run as smoothly without their support.

Basketball Holiday Camps - Save the Date
Please save the following dates for our upcoming St Pius X Basketball Holiday Camps, with further details and registration information to be shared with families shortly. The camps with be led by James Asensi and AET coaches.
Please note that due to the major works currently being undertaken at the College during the school holidays, the camp is planned to be held at Oxford Falls. Please note that arrangements remain subject to change as the works progress, and families will be updated accordingly.

We're excited to announce a new partnership with Asensi Elite Team (AET), who will support player development and coaching across the program. This partnership will bring enhanced training opportunities, specialist coaching, holiday camps and development pathways for our players.
Building Our Basketball Community
We're also exploring a SPX Basketball Season Launch Event, providing an opportunity for players, parents, coaches and supporters to come together, connect and celebrate the season ahead.
As a community-driven program, we welcome parent involvement. Whether you'd like to help on the Basketball Committee, support events, assist with fundraising, sponsorship, communications or game-day activities, we'd love to hear from you.

Basketball Grading Schedule
We have now completed our first round of basketball grading, and it has been fantastic to see the enthusiasm, effort and skill on display from so many students. Teams are beginning to take shape, and we greatly appreciate the positive attitude and commitment shown by all players throughout the process.
Final team selections will be confirmed following the second grading session. Once teams have been finalised, allocations will begin appearing in Clipboard, along with draft fixtures for the upcoming ISA basketball season.
Thank you for your patience and support as we work through the grading process.

Players selected in Development Teams will be provided with a coloured singlet for the season.
Travel Requirements for ISA Basketball
Please note that ISA Basketball is a home-and-away competition. While many fixtures will be played locally, some teams may be required to travel to venues such as Bowral, Bathurst, the Central Coast and Penrith throughout the season.
Students selected in an ISA team are expected to travel with their team to these venues as part of their commitment to the program. We appreciate that these fixtures require additional planning from families and will provide draws and travel information as early as possible once they are released by the ISA.

2026 - 2027 ISA BASKETBALL CALENDAR
Basketball Training Shirt
A sincere thank you to the SPX Basketball Supporters Club for their generous sponsorship of the new SPX Basketball Training Shirts. This support has enabled every registered player in the program to receive a training shirt for the upcoming season, helping to strengthen our basketball identity and create a greater sense of unity across all teams.
Distribution of the shirts has now commenced, and players will continue to receive their shirts over the coming weeks.
Please note that the training shirts are only permitted to be worn during the following occasions:
SPX Basketball training sessions
To and from SPX Basketball games and during ups.
Approved Basketball program activities, including camps and clinics.
The shirts are not permitted to be worn:
During PE lessons at the Chatswood campus
To and from school
As part of the daily school uniform

Squash
Was great to see the Pius Squash teams in action again last weekend across all venues for our final round of regular season games for Term 3. With all the teams playing in the finals on Saturday, I wish them the best of luck.
At Thornleigh, the SPX 1 team consisting of our Squash captain Cameron Giang produced a strong performance winning in straight sets. Mr Ritchie commented on how strong a performance it was on closing out the game in commanding fashion.
At Elanora, the teams had mixed results with some closes losses and emphatic wins. SPX 3 teams of Max Sunjaya and Eric Park had a memorable win with Max punishing any lose shots from St Andrews, while Eric challenged himself against a Div 1 player in a friendly giving him a taste of what top competition is all about. Great experience for the students.
SPX teams 7 and 8 played each other in another mate verse mate battle. Each of the teams have improved in confidence and shot play through out the year. It’s great to see them having fun and representing the college in the community.
Thanks to the parents and players who supported the teams throughout the weekend.

Welcome to the 2026 NSTA Tennis season. The season gets underway on Saturday, 12 September at the Oxford Falls Racquet Club for the first of our two grading days.
The day will be split into two sessions:
Session 1: 7:30 am - 11:00 am
This session is for players who:
Played ISA Division 11 or 12;
Played NSTA Division 17-23;
Have played Green Ball tennis; or
Are new to tennis.
Please ensure you have your name marked off on arrival.
Junior School Players: If you are new to tennis and are only considering joining our internal Green Ball competition, there is no need to attend grading on Saturday. However, if you would like to be considered for an NSTA competitive team, it is strongly recommended that you attend both the Thursday sport session at Oxford Falls and the Saturday grading session.
Session 2: 10:30 am - 2:00 pm
This session is for players who have previously competed in ISA or NSTA Divisions 1-10.
Please ensure you have your name marked off on arrival.
What to Bring
Players should bring:
Their tennis racquet; and
Their St Pius X Tennis Polo (or PE Polo if the tennis polo has not yet been issued).
The clubhouse kiosk will be open throughout the day, with drinks, snacks, pastries and toasties available for purchase.
If you are unable to attend the grading session, please let me know as soon as possible.

Touch Football
Touch Football Kicks Off in the Senior School
Excitement is building as we prepare for the inaugural Touch Football season in the Senior School. Attendance at training this term is crucial as players develop their skills, fitness, and combinations ahead of our first competitive fixtures.
Training will commence next Wednesday and will continue every Wednesday throughout the season at Oxford Falls. Buses depart Archer Street (outside OLD Church) between 3:10 pm and 3:15 pm and return to Chatswood, dropping students off outside the school on Anderson Street between 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm.
At this stage, training schedules have been confirmed, with ISA fixtures to be released shortly. The first match of the season is currently scheduled for Saturday, 24 October (Week 2, Term 4).
All team information, updates, training notices, and fixture details will be communicated through Clipboard, so students and parents are encouraged to check the platform regularly.
We look forward to seeing all players at training next Wednesday as we launch this exciting new chapter for Senior School sport.
