One Talk at a Time
Keeping children safe from harm is our highest priority. To support families, the Australian Government’s National Office for Child Safety has developed an initiative called 'One Talk at a Time'.
This national campaign focuses on a simple yet powerful idea: having regular, open, and age-appropriate conversations with children helps build their boundaries, teaches them about personal body safety, and lets them know they can always talk to a trusted adult.
- Why it matters: Research shows that open communication empowers children to recognize unsafe situations, understand consent, and speak up if something doesn't feel right.
- You don't need to be an expert: These chats don't have to be daunting or formal. They can happen naturally through everyday moments, stories, or resources provided by the campaign.
- Where to find support: Free practical tools, activity booklets, and conversation guides are available for families at the National Office for Child Safety website.
By breaking the silence together, we can create safer environments where our children feel supported, confident, and heard.
