Week 6 Update

We have reached the halfway mark of another extremely busy term. Over the past few weeks, it has been wonderful to see students sharing their learning journey with confidence and pride during our Learning Conferences. These conferences provide an important opportunity for students to reflect on their progress, celebrate their achievements and set clear goals in English, Maths and their Learner Qualities.

It has been fantastic to watch students take ownership of their learning and confidently discuss their achievements and next steps with their families and teachers. The high level of student engagement highlights the value of these conferences in continuing to build responsibility and agency for every learner at LNPS.

Sports Day is also quickly approaching and promises to be an amazing day filled with exciting events and strong student and community participation. We are currently looking for volunteers and donations to support our Sports Day BBQ and Bake Sale. If you can assist, please complete the survey on the next page.

State Leaders Day

Last Monday and Tuesday, I joined school leaders from across South Australia for the State Education Leaders Days. The two days provided an opportunity to hear about the future direction of public education and reflect on how this connects with the work already happening at LNPS.

A major focus was the new South Australian Curriculum, which will be introduced from 2027, with full implementation expected in 2028. The curriculum will continue to develop students’ knowledge while placing greater emphasis on the dispositions and capabilities they need to become successful learners.

This strongly connects with our Learner Qualities at LNPS: being resilient, independent, collaborative, curious, reflective and innovative. These are not additional subjects to teach, but important ways of thinking and working that support students across all areas of their learning.

There was also a strong focus on assessment and reporting, particularly how students can be supported to recognise their progress and tell the story of their own learning. This includes looking beyond a single assessment result and drawing on student reflections, work samples, teacher observations and learning conversations to provide a more complete picture of growth.

As we begin developing our new Strategic Plan, the learning from these two days will help guide our thinking about curriculum, assessment, reporting and how we continue to strengthen student agency. It was reassuring to see that many of the future directions align closely with the work already underway at LNPS, particularly our Learner Qualities and Learning Conference processes.
