Willy Kids are Busy Kids - Lunchtime Activities

Not every student wants to spend their lunchtime running around the yard, and that's perfectly okay! At Willy Primary, we know that kids recharge in different ways, so we offer a range of lunchtime activities to suit every kind of student, from quiet, cosy spaces to hands-on creative play. Whatever helps our Willy Kids feel happy, connected and ready for the rest of their day, we've got something for them.

The Wellbeing Hub

The Wellbeing Hub caters for any students who wish to take part in quiet play activities during the lunch hour. The Hub is supervised by the Stand Up Project Student Leaders in Year 5/6, while the teacher on yard duty in the area is available to assist when needed. The Hub is stocked with bean bag chairs and cushions, mats, books, drawing materials, board games, soft toys, sensory items and Lego. 

Library

Our library is open at lunchtimes as a quiet, welcoming space for students who need a break from the busyness of the yard. Staffed by our Education Support Staff, it offers a calm environment for students to read, relax, or simply have some quiet time; whether they're seeking a break from social demands, needing a moment to recharge, or would simply prefer a change from outdoor play on a given day. 

Play Pod

The Play Pod is a shipping container next to the Prep playground, filled with loose parts for imaginative, hands-on play; foam pieces, large cardboard cylinders, cushions, blankets, and old tyres. Students are encouraged to use their creativity to build, construct and invent their own games. The Play Pod is run by our Year 4 student volunteers and overseen by the yard duty teacher on hand, giving our Willy Kids a fun and imaginative space to play during break times. 

Lego Club

Lego Club runs at lunchtimes in the Wellbeing classroom and is staffed by classroom teacher volunteers. Students can drop in to build, create, and connect with friends over a shared love of Lego. We run two sessions across the week to suit different age groups: one for Prep–2 students and one for students in Years 3–6. 

Art and French Clubs

Art Club and French Club offer students the chance to explore their creativity and language skills outside the regular classroom, run by our specialist Art and French teachers. These clubs are open to different year levels at various stages throughout the year, giving students across the school the opportunity to take part over time.

Other Lunchtime Activities

Throughout the year, additional lunchtime opportunities may arise depending on teacher availability and student interest. Recent examples include a 3D printing club for Year 5/6 students, and visits from senior students at Williamstown High School, who periodically run games sessions with our younger students, once a week over a four-week block.

Keep an eye on our external bulletin boards around the school and the boards in each classroom for the weekly activities schedule. Our fabulous Stand Up Student Leaders also make daily announcements at lunchtime, so every Willy Kid knows what's on offer and never misses out on the fun.
