Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
Hopefully the weather gods smile upon this Wednesday for our much anticipated whole-school athletics day. Postponed from last Wednesday due to proposed industrial action, our athletics day this Wednesday will no doubt be a hit. Whilst the canteen is usually closed on Wednesdays, it will be open this week and will include more adult food for our parents and families. In addition, there will be a coffee van on-site for that much needed caffeine hit for adults only. Please come along, spectate, assist and most certainly support all our athletes.
Our next big event after athletics day is our Education Week Expo to be held on May 19th from 4-6:30pm. The theme for this year's expo is 'Showcase your school'. On the night we will be hosting a range of interactive and engaging activities for children and adults alike. Food and drinks will be available for sale on the night, and we expect this to be our best expo ever! Be sure not to miss out. Come along with the family. Have dinner at school, enjoy some fun activities and enjoy the playgrounds with your family.
Our grade three and four campers head off to Cave Hill Creek in the coming weeks. I have assured the children that there are no more electric eels in the lake...the crocodiles ate them all! In all seriousness, this camp is a great experience for all. It shows the staff in a different light, it shows the students in a different light, and everyone gets to let their hair down, learn some new skills and develop their independence. If any families have financial queries about the camp, please see the office staff. If parents have questions about the camp itself, Lauren Wishart is your best bet.
Calling all daggy dad dancers. Get your disco shoes dusted off for our next Fathering Project event. Yep, that's right. Fathers and fatherly figures are encouraged to come along and bust a move with their children or family members as we dance into the evening at our upcoming disco. More information can be found further into the newsletter. So get those sequinned shirts out of the closet, start limbering up and mark Friday June 5th in your calendar.
As was mentioned in our last edition, we are now on Instagram. Our handle is: @mackellarps or www.instagram.com/mackellarps Please like and follow to see all of the amazing things happening at Mackellar Primary School.
Finally, a reminder that our term two pupil free day is approaching. The pupil free day will be on Tuesday June 9, the day after the King's Birthday public holiday giving the students a four day break during the middle of the term. TheirCare will be available on the Tuesday, however the school will be closed on June 8.
Kind regards,
Simon McGlade
Principal
