Principal's Report
Tim Furphy, Principal
I can't believe the term is drawing to a close. Not sure where the times gone, but here we are none the less. Our Easter Raffle will be upon us at our next assembly, which will be next Thursday at 2:00pm, followed by a 2:30pm early dismissal. Sssssssshhhhhhh, there may even be an Easter Egg hunt.
We have had our intial meeting with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) regarding the grant we recieved to upgrade our toilets, which excitingly was over $300,000. While this will be a process and take some time, it's nice to get things underway.
We hit the ground running next term with Cross Country in the first week. Many parents have already flagged an interest in coming along to support the day, we're really thankful to anyone who can pitch in some time. We will be doing our running, having a BBQ, walking up Hanging Rock and playing some games organised by our Grade 6s.
SCHOOL COUNCIL
At this weeks School Council meeting members voted to elect a president, vice president, treasurer and secretary. I am pleased to announce the following:
School Council President - Shey Newitt
School Council Vice President - Tanya James
School Council Treasurer - Scott Pape
School Council Secretary - Narelle Reino
We also discussed a few potential fundraising events for the year, with the big one being a Trivia Night (and auction) later in the year. In 2024 this was an incredible fundraiser for our school, raising over $12,000. I do also know it was hard, tiresome and comes at a cost of MANY hours spent in getting it off the ground. I know I'm not selling it very well, but we benefited so much from the hard work of a few families. If you're up for being part of a committee to get this (and other events) going, we'd love to hear form you!
PARENT INFORMATION SESSION
We're looking ahead to holding a parent information session to share how things are done at NPS. We hope this is a beneficial event for us to share the research behind our practice, and why we believe it's best for our kids. Please visit the link below to respond to our Google Form to ensure we are covering the topics you want to hear :
KITCHEN
Unfortunately the Newham Hall has been pretty well booked up towards the end of this term, we just cant fit around a few of our own calendar dates. We will have extra sessions next term to make up for this!
COMMUNICATION
Please continue to use Compass Connect (messenger function) on Compass for communication between families and teachers. See below photo, highlited icon for messaging. Narelle in the office is also there to support your admin questions.

VISITING THE CLASSROOMS
Please know that we'd love you to visit the classrooms with your child(ren) before or after school - they're open from 8.45am in the morning. Staff are in meetings Monday/Tuesday at 3.45. We really do hope to see some faces checking in!
MULTI-PURPOSE COURT
At School council the decision was made to remove the $66 membership fee for use of our courts, and instead open it freely for all members of our comunity. It is a great resource to have for the Newham township, we'd love to see it used more regularly. Hopefully this encourages people both within our school and wider community to have shared space for a range of sports and activities over the weekends.
