Anchorage House News

Welcome back to 2024! The energy in Anchorage House I think, could power the Albany grid!! Our boys came back into the house getting straight back into what they enjoy here at GSG. The cricket nets are alive with budding 'Mitch Marshes', and the outside strip between the boarding house and shed has become a touch rugby area where the boys have a great culture of fair play. The rec shed is getting plenty of use of an afternoon with our new arcade two-player basketball game, the cross net is fatigued with the amount of use it has received over the last few weeks and the ping pong is seeing more players on it than the Australian Open.

The house is back to being a place where the boys call home during the term. This year we welcome the following boys into our Anchorage community:

  • Jake Bessell-Browne, Boyerine, Woodanilling
  • Isaiah Carpio, Katanning
  • Cameron Hooper, Frankland River
  • Harry Newfield, Walpole
  • James Waldron, Cranbrook
  • Harrison Woithe, Broomehill
  • Fletcher Patterson Lake Toolbrunup, Tambellup

The culture in the house is about getting around each other and learning to support each other, whether that's at school or around the house. The buddy system is there for each new boy; however, I have noticed that they are generally very good at checking in on those who need some help.

Trust and respect are the values we hold ourselves to in the house. It shapes our character and I have been very pleased to see our boys who have returned this year using this when having conversations with staff. It's something we default to if checking boys on behaviour and the new boys are learning all about it.

We always talk about the need for two-way communication in a boarding environment, so thank you to the families for doing this. Getting some context around your son from what you are hearing or seeing has been valuable for our staff when supporting your son in the house, so a huge thank you.

Birthdays

We start the year wishing a happy birthday to Corinthian Calwyn who had his birthday in January. We also had three birthdays in Week Two of term, many happy returns to Tristan Harris, Jai Waterman and Kade Waterman.  All boys are now teenagers, all turning 13.
