From the Boarding Captains

Hello everyone and welcome to the new year. I hope you have all enjoyed the break and can’t wait to see what the year throws at us.

Last Saturday the Year Twelve students had the school Ball at Retravision Stadium in town. We all had a fantastic time with the boys looking smart in their suits and ties and the girls looking pretty in their dresses. I’m sure the Year Twelves will have fond memories of the Ball (including pre’s and after’s) for many years to come.

One of the things Brianna and myself would like to work on this year is bringing the younger and older houses together. Community in a boarding environment is very important because, without it, it doesn’t quite feel like home. It was great to see that the whole boarding community was able to get down to support us, as we walked down the red carpet for our big night. Another example is how on Friday the Anchorage boys were able to come up to Eclipse House and mingle for a little while. We played basketball and some backyard cricket. It was a great opportunity to interact with the younger houses and we look forward to doing it again.

I wish everyone the best for Term One and will write again soon. Bye.

The start of this year has been filled with excitement and fun. It was so nice to see everyone’s familiar faces again at the welcome lunch after a long relaxing holiday. It is such a nice event that brings our community together after the long break.

The new year brings new routines for the new boarders and enables the returning boarders settle into them. The orientation for the new boarders allowed them have some time to familiarise themselves with boarding in its systems and layout. Year Seven's also had an orientation week full of activities to introduce them to the school.

Breaksea welcomes Ms Liz Stewart as our new Head of House. Ms Stewart used to work weekends in Breaksea but she, along with her family, have stepped up to become our new boarding parents. Ms Stewart has brought so much energy and love into our house. She is very enthusiastic about creating a fun and homely atmosphere in Breaksea. Her kids Anika and Roy have loved hanging out with all the girls in Breaksea and Mr Doanldson has started morning fishing which many of the girls have enjoyed.

The Year Twelve students had their School Ball on Saturday last weekend. It was such a nice event, everyone looked gorgeous in their dresses and suits and we all had a fantastic time. It was lovely to have some Alumni boarders return and see their faces again. I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff, kids and parents who supported us on the red carpet.

I hope everyone had a great holiday and enjoying the start of the term.
