Breaksea House

The first two weeks of Term One at Breaksea have been incredibly exciting. The students have been eager to return and have settled back into boarding life with great enthusiasm. It has been wonderful to see them reconnecting with old friends and forming new bonds.

The students have enjoyed a range of recreational activities, including trips to the beach to cool off after the hot summer days. The Year Ten group has been particularly adventurous, going on fishing trips with the expert guidance of Roy, Anika and Paul. We enjoyed some tasty drinks and pastries at Little Beach Store café. Other students have taken part in hits of tennis and walks to the Fish Traps. It's thrilling to see so many students diving into leisure and cocurricular activities. Other exciting news is that Breaksea now has eight new boogie boards to take with us on beach trips.

Griffins Basketball and local Women's AFL teams have started their games, and the energy on the court and field has been matched by the spirit of the community.  Breaksea is proud to have some budding champions, with both football players named amongst the best players in round one! Lots of girls have attended Griffins Netball Trials and are eagerly awaiting preparations for the season to begin.

The much-awaited Year Twelve Ball happened this weekend and we loved seeing the girls dressed up and walking the red carpet with style, grace and confidence!

It's excellent to hear about the positive experiences and support offered by the very capable and caring supervisors at Breaksea. Working in-house this Term we have Carter Wight, Mikaela Burton, Kate Valleri, our new recruit Phoebe Duff and myself. Additionally, the contributions made by Gap students Mia Wienand, Paige Boyley, and Nicolas Posse are highly appreciated. Mia, who resides in Breaksea is making a positive impact with her infectious energy.

I must express my gratitude to all the students and families in Breaksea who have warmly welcomed me, my family, Paul, Roy, and Anika. We already feel a strong connection to Breaksea and our children love their interactions in the Boarding House.  A huge thank you to Di Franzinelli, Ash Keatch, Nyree Mackenzie, and Taylor Colton for their patience and guidance in helping me understand the nuances of Boarding at GSG.

To strengthen the sense of belonging in Breaksea, we need to focus on connecting people through engagement, culture, and excellence. We should demonstrate a strong commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment for everyone involved. It is great to see that the community is prioritising 'community building' and holistic development.

Birthdays

Our first two birthdays of the year were both celebrated in January.  Happy birthday to McKayla Ettridge who turned 15 and Amber Pearce who turned 17.   Best wishes to both girls.

I wish everyone continued success in achieving these goals and creating a supportive and enriching boarding community at Breaksea.
