Look! My name is in a Book!
Over the past few weeks, Mrs Mann put together a fabulous display in the Library featuring over 50 books with Primary students’ names on them. The students have had great fun trying to find their own or their friends' names.
Even a couple of teachers joined the fun and found books with their first or second names. The display will remain in the library until the end of term, so come along and find your name in a book.
The third term is Book Week, so watch this space for more information after the holidays!
Supercharged Incursion For Prep M
On Friday, 12th June, Prep M participated in an exciting Supercharged Science Incursion. Throughout the session, students investigated different ways that toys can move, make sounds, and light up. They explored the forces that cause objects to move, including hands-on experiments with magnets.
Students also observed how different coloured lights affected a variety of surfaces and materials. A highlight of the morning was creating their own air-powered straw rockets. The children made predictions, tested their designs, and discovered how adding different weights to the rockets changed their movement. It was a fantastic morning of scientific exploration, discovery, and learning, with students enthusiastically engaging in a range of hands-on activities.
Regional Cross Country Success, Chase McDermott
I would like to congratulate Chase McDermott on his outstanding effort at the Regional Cross Country Championships on 17th June.
Chase proudly represented our school in the 3km event, finishing an impressive 21st out of approximately 50 competitors with a time of 10:21. Having watched Chase progress through the District and Division stages, it was fantastic to hear him embrace the challenge of Regional competition, where the standard and pace are on another level altogether.
The race was very different to those at previous stages. From the start, the pace was significantly faster, requiring runners to approach the event in a completely different way. To put the quality of the field into perspective, the athlete who comfortably won the Division race finished 35th at Regionals, highlighting just how strong the competition was.
What pleased me most was not Chase's finishing position but the way he approached the challenge. He gave his best effort, competed with determination, and was genuinely happy with how he ran. At the end of the day, that is what matters most. Chase should be incredibly proud of his achievement and the way he represented both himself and Bayside throughout the cross-country season.

Jogging Club
Congratulations to all of our Jogging Club participants on a fantastic effort throughout Term 2. It has been wonderful to see so many students regularly attending before school and during lunchtime to improve their fitness, challenge themselves, and enjoy being active with their friends.
A significant milestone was reached this term, with our Jogging Club community collectively surpassing 1,000 laps for the year. This achievement is a testament to the commitment, perseverance, and positive attitudes shown by our students.
Thank you to all students and families for your ongoing support of the Jogging Club. We look forward to building on this momentum in Term 3 and seeing how many more laps we can achieve together.
Year 5/6 Table Tennis Tournament
A huge congratulations to our tournament winners, Caleb Kidney (Boys’ Champion) and Lydia Teramoto (Girls’ Champion), who both produced outstanding performances to take out their respective competitions.
The format saw all boys and girls compete in a knockout-style tournament, with winners progressing through each round until two finalists were left standing in both the Boys’ and Girls’ divisions. The intensity built with every match, as students battled point by point for a place in the finals.
The Boys’ final between Caleb Kidney and Walter Barnes was an absolute thriller, finishing 9:11 in a nail-biting finish. It had all the drama of a gold medal Olympic final, reminiscent of classic matchups where momentum swings back and forth, forehand to backhand, with every rally increasing the tension and every point feeling crucial right to the very end.
In the Girls’ final, Lydia Teramoto faced Sammi Gorrie in a match that initially looked one-sided, but quickly turned into a battle of resilience. Sammi fought her way back point by point, pushing the match to a tie-break, where Lydia held her nerve under pressure to claim victory.
Well done to Caleb and Lydia on your tournament wins, both showing skill, composure, and determination in high-pressure moments. In exciting news, an exhibition match between the two champions is set to take place on Thursday morning: an unmissable clash between the best of the best!
Year 5/6 Excursion to Karingal Hub
As a culminating experience for our Money, Media and Me topic, the Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed a highly engaging excursion to Karingal Hub. The day provided students with a real-world insight into how a large shopping centre operates and the many systems that work behind the scenes to ensure its success.
A highlight of the excursion was meeting the Centre Manager, who spoke to students about marketing and advertising strategies for attracting customers. Students learned about promotions, special events, loyalty programs, and how retailers work together to create a positive shopping experience. They also gained an understanding of the logistics involved in running a busy shopping centre, including security, maintenance, deliveries, and customer service.
After choosing their own lunch from the food court, students took part in a scavenger hunt around the centre. Working in teams, they searched for a bargain sign, located a surveillance camera, and found an item that could be purchased for just one dollar. These activities encouraged students to observe how marketing techniques and operational systems are used throughout the shopping centre. A big thanks to our parent helpers who made this trip possible.

On Tuesday, the 16th of June, the whole of 5/6 boarded the bus to go to Karingal Hub. We went to Karingal Hub to wrap up our integrated topic on Money, Media and Me. When we arrived, we were met by Prue ( The manager of Karingal Hub), who talked about her job, what her position implies, and marketing strategies on how to get the customers to not only come, but to stay and come back.
After listening to the manager’s insightful speech, 5/6 split into their classes and proceeded to visit different stores and view their different types of marketing strategies, such as colours, urging language, and persuasive devices.
At about 12:00, all three classes gathered at the food court for lunch.
After lunch, the whole of 5/6 split into its groups to participate in a scavenger hunt. There were lots of different items on the list, with limited time to find them. The hardest one was a shopkeeper named Susan, but apparently that's the name of the manager at Henry’s!
We then all met back at the area in front of Coles and then boarded the bus back to school. I’m sure all the students had a fabulous time and learned lots about Money, Media, and Market strategies!
Yr 5/6 Winter Sports Lightning Premiership day
On Wednesday, 10th June, our Year 5/6 students participated in the Winter Sports Lightning Premiership Day, enjoying a fantastic day of competition, teamwork, and school spirit.
Our Mixed Netball and Girls’ Netball teams showed great determination across an incredible 11 games throughout the day at Jubilee Park. The Mixed Netball team finished with an outstanding 2nd place overall, narrowly missing out on the top spot.
The Mixed Soccer and Girls’ Soccer teams also represented Bayside with enthusiasm and sportsmanship, playing 7 games each. The Girls’ Soccer team enjoyed an excellent tournament, finishing 2nd overall after a day of strong performances and teamwork.
Meanwhile, our AFL 9s team battled through five games, embracing the muddy conditions with plenty of enthusiasm, resilience, and good humour. While they may have returned home a little dirtier than they arrived, they certainly made the most of the experience.
A huge thank you must go to our parent helpers, coaches, and referees who generously gave their time to support our students throughout the day. Events like this simply do not happen without the willingness of volunteers to supervise, coach, officiate, and encourage our teams. Your support is greatly appreciated and plays a vital role in making these opportunities possible for our students.
We would also like to acknowledge our secondary student helpers, including several Year 7 and Year 8 students, who stepped up to referee soccer throughout the day. A special thank you goes to Mitchell Hooper and Lauren Gascard, who umpired AFL 9s for the entire day and helped ensure the event ran smoothly.
It was a fun-filled day of sport, friendship, and competition that showcased the character and spirit of our students. Judging by the energy expended across the various venues, there were undoubtedly plenty of students who slept very well that night!
