Melbourne Royal Show – Art and Craft Competition

 

It’s time to get creative! Entries are now open for the Melbourne Royal Art, Craft & Cookery Competition

 

The Melbourne Royal Art, Craft & Cookery Competition enables students the opportunity to showcase their creativity at the Melbourne Royal Show, held during the September school holidays at the Melbourne Showgrounds in Ascot Vale. Entries will be seen by hundreds of thousands of people visiting the Show.

 

Last year, Brighton Primary School had 93 entries and won 48 prizes including three First Prize ribbons.

 

Some of the junior categories available to enter this year are:

 

  • Painting (Prep to Grade 2), (Grades 3 and 4), (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Painting Colour Challenge – only use red (Prep to Grade 6)
  • Drawing (Prep to Grade 2), (Grades 3 and 4), (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Print Making (Prep to Grade 2), (Grades 3 and 4), (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Collage (Prep to Grade 2), (Grades 3 and 4), (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Sculpture and 3D Form (Prep to Grade 2), (Grades 3 and 4), (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Photography (Prep to Grade 2), (Grades 3 and 4), (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Ceramics (Prep to Grade 6)
  • Drawing with Thread (Prep to Grade 4), (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Fibre, Fabric, Yarn (Prep to Grade 2), (Grades 3 and 4), (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Digital Art (Prep to Grade 4)
  • Digital Art (Grades 5 and 6)
  • Casual, Formal Wear or Costume (Prep to Grade 6)
  • Soft Toy (Prep to Grade 6)
  • Dress Up Challenge (for a doll or teddy) (Prep to Grade 6)

 

Students may enter as many pieces as they like. Please complete the QKR entry ($4.50 per item) before Sunday 2 August 2026 (end of Term 3, Week 3) to register artwork submissions.

 

Miss Narelle will contact registered students to ask what category they would like to enter. 

 

Students who have registered will have until Friday 28 August to complete and then submit their artwork to Miss Narelle (Visual Arts teacher) who will deliver it to the showgrounds on their behalf, and return it to them in early Term 4.

Please note: when looking at the ACC Schedule, please make sure to view the Schools and Youth Competition, which starts on page 43. Registration and entry via Brighton Primary School QKR is $4.50 per item.  

 

BPS REGISTRATIONS CLOSE ON SUNDAY 2 AUGUST 2026 (END OF TERM 3, WEEK 2).
