Class WhatsApp Groups 

Parent Communication Guidelines

Dear Parents and Carers,

 

All of our classes have parent-led WhatsApp groups that provide a convenient way for families to share practical information and reminders. These groups can be a valuable tool for building community and supporting the smooth operation of class and school events.

 

To ensure these groups remain positive, respectful, and helpful for all families, we ask that communications be limited to matters such as:

 

  • Daily and weekly reminders
  • Excursions, incursions, and special events
  • Uniform, lost property and timetable questions
  • Social and community events
  • General operational information

 

WhatsApp groups should not be used to:

 

  • Discuss individual students or families
  • Discuss classroom teachers, specialist teachers or other staff members
  • Discuss classroom, playground, or school incidents
  • Speculate about situations involving students or staff
  • Raise complaints, concerns or grievances regarding school matters

 

School incidents are often complex and involve information that cannot be shared publicly due to privacy and confidentiality requirements. Discussions in parent WhatsApp groups are rarely based on a complete understanding of the circumstances and can unintentionally contribute to misinformation, distress, and division within our community.

 

If you have a concern regarding your child, another student, a staff member, or an incident that has occurred at school, please contact the relevant classroom teacher or a member of the leadership team directly. This ensures concerns can be addressed appropriately, confidentially and with the benefit of all relevant information.

 

By keeping WhatsApp communications focused on practical information and reminders, we can continue to foster a respectful, supportive and inclusive community for all families.
