Swimming Carnival 2024
We are excited to announce that our annual Swimming Carnival for 2024 will take place on Friday 16th February at the Wangaratta WSAC Outdoor Pool.
This event is a vital event on our School Calendar, and has been part of the fabric of Wangaratta High School for over 100 years. We look forward to seeing everyone there, either racing, or supporting their peers.
HOW DO YOU SIGN UP TO RACE?
There will be a House Meeting next Thursday Homeroom, where you can write your name down. Otherwise, you can sign up by:
A. Emailing me at Jud.Mullins@education.vic.gov.au
B. Finding me in person around school.
C. Telling your Homeroom teacher to email me.

50m Freestyle
50m Breaststroke
50m Backstroke
50m Butterfly
100m Freestyle
4x50m Freestyle Relay
HOW DO WE CALCULATE THE WINNING HOUSE?
- Every swimmer earns 1 point.
- Winners and Place-getters get extra points according to their place.
- Extra points also come from participants in the Water Games and Costume/Cheering/Dance Competitions.
SOME OPERATIONAL DETAILS:
- This is a Whole School Event (all students and staff will be there..no classes will run at school).
- Free entry.
- Students will meet at Homeroom at 9:00am for Roll Call, then walk together to the Pool.
- Students will enter the Pool through the outside gate, and won't be permitted inside the WISAC venue for any purpose all day.
- Food will be on sale on the Pool Deck (BBQ run by our Prefects, with Drinks & other Snacks being sold by other classes). However you can Bring Your Own lunch/drinks as well.
- Toilets will be the Footy Club change-rooms, accessed by a special gate.
- Families are welcome to come along.
- Obviously be Sun Smart (sunscreen, hats, sunnies, long-sleeves etc).
SOME FUN DETAILS:
- Everyone is to dress in their House Colours. This is all part of the day and heaps of fun. There will be prizes for the Best Dressed individuals and House Points for the overall House.
KING = Green
OVENS = Blue
MERRIWA = Yellow
WAREENA = Red
- There will be Water Games where non-racers can get in the Pool and earn points for their House.
- Anyone entering the water CAN wear coloured zinc. But CAN NOT wear coloured paint or hair spray (both bleed into the water).
- Each House has a traditional "chant/War Cry" which are in your School Diaries. I will post these soon, and you can practice in the House Meeting. There will be House Points on offer for the best cheering.
- We have a Year 12 Prefect DJ-ing across the day, which will include House Dance Off competitions for House points..
IMPORTANT FOR ALL YEAR 7s:You have been allocated to a House according to your Homeroom group.Your Houses are:
- 7A - King
- 7B - Merriwa
- 7C - Ovens
- 7D - Wareena
- 7E - Wareena
LAST YEAR'S RESULTS:
Merriwa = champions in both Swimming & Athletics.
Ovens = 2nd in both.
King = 4th in Swimming. 3rd in Athletics.
Wareena = 3rd in Swimming. 4th in Athletics.
This year however, Wareena will be bolstered by having two Year 7 classes, one of which is the SEAL group, who history shows are often strong swimmers and athletes .It will be King's turn to get that boost in 2025.
