Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships

All students will continue to take part in the Respectful Relationships initiative. Respectful Relationships is a whole school approach that promotes a culture of equality and respect to end Family Violence for future generations. This will be achieved by reviewing existing practices and culture to promote inclusivity and equity at school, as well as delivering an evidence based social and emotional learning program that supports resilience, respect and equality. 

As part of this whole school approach, this term, students will undertake lessons about gender and gender-based violence. Students will learn how to respect others despite differences, critically reflect on gender norms and stereotypes, identify types of violence, promote rights and respect for others, understand consent and seek help if someone they know is unsafe.    

Throughout the program, there will be clear expectations set for students and an emphasis on discussing these topics using correct terminology and respect for other students and staff at all times. 

The teachers have embedded RR into their weekly program and continue to provide engaging and supportive activities to enhance student learning in this area. Teachers have planned extensively to cover topic areas from the Victorian Curriculum Personal and Social capabilities. The activities prepare students to face challenges and navigate relationships by developing problem-solving skills and building empathy, resilience and self-esteem.
