State Hoop Time Finals

Last week, two of our Grade 5/6 teams proudly represented our school at the State HoopTime Finals, held at the State Basketball Centre. This event brought together some of thestrongest primary school teams from across Victoria, and we are delighted that our studentsprogressed to the final stage of the competition.

Our teams - the All Stars Boys and the Future Stars Girls - competed in four challenging games throughout the day. Both teams demonstrated determination, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship in every match.

Although neither team progressed to the finals, reaching the State Finals is an exceptionalachievement. Our students gave their very best effort, and we are extremely proud of theway they competed and conducted themselves.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Kight and Karine for their dedication and coaching, aswell as to the parents who supported the teams on the day.

Congratulations to all students involved for a fantastic effort at the 2025 State Hoop Time Finals.

School Sport Victoria Academic and Sporting Achievement Medal

Kalinda Primary School proudly congratulates Ben K, the recipient of the School Sport Victoria Academic and Sporting Achievement Medal for 2025.

This award recognises a Grade 6 student who consistently demonstrates outstanding academic commitment alongside exceptional sporting achievement. Ben has represented Kalinda in District Cross Country, Athletics and Hoop Time every year he has been eligible. He has also been part of school teams that reached Regional Finals in Football and Basketball, with his Hoop Time team progressing to the State Finals this year.

Outside of school, Ben’s dedication to sport is remarkable. For Basketball, he competes at a high level and, in 2025, earned selection into Kilsyth’s elite representative program. His achievements include multiple tournament wins, a silver medal at National Championships, team captaincy and an MVP award. Ben also plays Football for Norwood, competing above his age group, and has achieved Best and Fairest honours, a Premiership and captaincy.

Just as importantly, Ben is known for his great leadership and sportsmanship. He is a supportive teammate, a respectful competitor and a positive role model within our school community.

Congratulations to Ben on this outstanding and well-deserved achievement.
