YEAR 5&6 WINTER SPORT
& LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP TOURNAMENTS
Tomorrow see’s our Year 5 & 6 students play in their final round of the Winter Sport inter-school program. The seven rounds have proven to be a great chance for the Year 5 & 6 students to get to know each other a lot better, mixing and making connections within their netball and football teams. Students have loved the chance to visit other schools and to play against other Dendy schools each week.
Tomorrow our final round is a little different, with a mix of our Team #2 and Team #1 students playing away against St. Mary’s Malvern East, whilst many of our Team #1 students will play some intra-school netball at our school courts, due to having a final round bye. *Our Year 5 & 6 students will be aware of their sport plan by the end of Thursday.
ROUND 7 GAME DETAILS: Fri. 13th June
* FOOTBALLERS: MUST bring a mouthguard – no mouthguard, no play
*GAMES PLAYED: approx. 1.00pm – 2.30pm.
HOME NETBALL GAMES: St Finbar’s 1 (& a mix of St. Finbar’s 2 NETBALLERS)
Netball: St. Finbar’s school courts. (Miss Happell, Alessia (LSO). SF#1 netballers & some of SF#2 netballers will play games at school)
Football: No St. Finbar’s 1 home football game. Some SF#1 footballers will join the SF#2 team playing away, some to remain at school to assist with the Little Long Walk activities (Mr Tyndall)
AWAY GAMES: St Mary’s Malvern East vs St. Finbar’s 2 (& a mix of St. Finbar’s 1 FOOTBALLERS):
Football: Stanley Grose oval, Darling Park, Malvern East. (Mrs Thompson)
Netball: St. Mary’s Malvern East, Manning Rd, Malvern East. (Miss Bourke)
To depart at 12.10pm by bus. Return by 3.25pm

Lightning Premiership tournaments:
Next week we have a big week of sporting tournaments for many of our Year 5 & 6’s. Our representative teams will play in the Lightning Premiership round robin tournaments against our other Dendy District schools. On Tuesday, our AFL football team will play their tournament over at Darling Park in Malvern East, Wednesday is set for a big netball day with three teams playing at Duncan McKinnon Reserve courts and to cap off the week, our girls and boys soccer teams will head to Caulfield Park to play in the Dendy LP Soccer tournament. We wish all our teams a great day of games at their respective tournaments!
STATE REPRESENTATIVE NEWS!
We’re always proud of every student’s sporting and recreational efforts here at St. Finbar’s, however it’s a SUPER SPECIAL moment when one of our students make STATE SELECTION!
Congratulations goes to Edie S (6T) who this week received the exciting news that she’s been selected in the Team Vic. 12&U Girls AFL football team! Edie will now spend a number of weekend days training with the Victorian team in preparation for the School Sports Australia (SSA) 12y & U Girls National AFL football championships.
Over the past two months, Edie has been busy attending and trials, in hope to make it through each phase. With Edie’s lightning quick pace (who can forget her speedy hurdles, 200m & relay times!) and her developing on-ball skills, she is to be congratulated for this wonderful achievement and we wish her a wonderful experience when she heads up to Maroochydore in early August to play in the National tournament. Well done Edie!

Please note: Due to low team entries the Year 5&6 HoopTime date that was originally on Monday 30th of June, will be postponed. Mrs. Thompson will contact all Year 5 and 6 families with a new date soon.
TERM 3:
Friday 22nd August: District Athletics Carnival - selected team of students (GR Bricker Reserve)
Monday 25th Aug. - Thursday 4th Sept.: Learn to Swim & Water Safety program: whole school (BlueFit Swim School, Cheltenham)
Friday 5th September: LP Basketball - x1 boys team & x1 girls team (selected Yr 5/6 students)
Tuesday 16th September: Year 3&4 Junior HoopTime tournament (Nunawading stadium)
