From the Director of Junior School

Mrs Melissa Thirgood

Dear Junior School Families,

This past week has been a remarkable one in the Junior School, filled with growth, connection and community spirit.

Our Year 5 students showed incredible resilience and enthusiasm during their camp at Blue Lagoon. From fun outdoor activities to moments of quiet reflection, the camp provided countless opportunities for students to step out of their comfort zones, support one another and deepen their friendships. The bonds formed and the confidence gained will stay with them for years to come, creating lifelong memories and experiences that help shape them as individuals. We are immensely proud of the way our Year 5s embraced every moment with courage, kindness and a sense of adventure.

What an adventure! Read more about the Year 5 Camp in Junior School News.

Meanwhile, we’ve also been celebrating Nagle Week across the Junior School. It has been heartening to see our community come together this week in support of Tassie Mums, the charity chosen by our Year 12 Prefects. Through generous donations from families, we’ve been able to make a meaningful contribution to those in need. Thank you to everyone who participated – your support truly embodies the spirit of service and compassion that Nagle Week represents.

What a wonderful week of learning, giving and growing together!

Throughout this year, Mrs Margaret Rootes, our Junior School Religious Education Learning Leader, has been supporting our candidates as they embark on this faith journey to complete their Sacraments, and she has been very proud of the dedication shown by our students.

Our candidates will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday 8 June at 10.30am in the Cathedral. As they continue their faith journey, they will begin preparations for their First Eucharist next term. We invite you to keep them in your prayers and support them during this special and meaningful time in their spiritual lives.

If you have a child participating in a Sacramental Program outside of our Parish, please let us know, as we would like to acknowledge them and this special time in their life. Please email mthirgood@smc.tas.edu.au
