From the Director of Teaching and Learning K-12

Ms Chelsea Mouritz

Tomorrow, Thursday 22 May, is the 2025 Southern Catholic College Careers Expo, organised by Catholic Education Tasmania (CET). The event is a chance to explore the world of work, gain valuable insights from professionals and engage in interactive exhibits to help direct future pathways.

Students from Years 9–12 will be attending this year’s Expo down at Macquarie Point. The Year 9 and 10 students will walk to and from the College for the event. Year 11 and 12 students will travel earlier by bus, bringing their bags with them. To allow them to make the most of their time at the Expo, Year 11 and 12 students will be dismissed directly from the event rather than returning to school.

Thank you to Mrs Lucy Paske, Pathways and Course Advisor, for her dedication to this project and the pathways of our College students.

Year 11 and 12 Course Guide 2026

We are pleased to share the release of the 2026 Year 11 and 12 Course Guide for St Mary's College. This resource is designed to support students and their families as they plan for the final years of secondary education.

The course guide provides detailed information on the wide range of courses and study options available in Years 11 and 12, helping students make informed decisions about their future pathways and career goals.

We encourage all students and parents/carers to explore the course guide and begin conversations about subject selections.

You can access the Course Guide here.  Further information about the process for subject selection will be shared with families shortly.

Nagle Education Alliance of Australia (NEAA) Staff Conference

The eighth NEAA Staff Conference was held in Melbourne from 16–18 May. Six staff members from the College attended the biennial event, with three proudly contributing as presenters.

This year's conference theme was 'Lanterns of Learning: 250 years of Nano Nagle's light'.Through the lenses of Mission, Education and Wellbeing, the conference respectfully remembered and considered the great works undertaken by both the Venerable Nano Nagle and the Presentation Sisters.

Attendees were present from Presentation schools and associated ministries throughout Australia to share opportunities and experiences offered at their respective Colleges.

Congratulations to SMC staff, Mrs Sharon Lawler, Mrs Belle Young and Mrs Fiona Chambers, who ran engaging and tangible workshops that highlight how our College remembers and engages in the Presentation Charism and Nano Nagle’s legacy.

Year 9 and 10 Outdoor Education camps

The College Outdoor Education students will embark on a three-night outdoor experience at Honeymoon Bay with the first group setting off in Week 4, and the second in Week 5. Thank you to Mrs Sarah Matsouris, Mr Cameron Hendy, Mr Ian Cantle and Ms Ava Read for accompanying the students and offering such rich and tangible experiences in the Tasmanian outdoors.

We look forward to the groups' return and seeing the wonderful opportunities they have experienced together.
