Athletics Day

Olivia Papaevangelou, Year 6, Buckley House

On Wednesday the 20 of August, Buckley House students and teachers made their way down to the racetrack in Collingwood for the 2025 Athletics day. Although the day only consisted of Grades 3 to 6, it was still a very busy day filled with a cheery crowd. Lincoln had dressed in green tutus, necklaces, glasses, and many more accessories. Athelstane brought a spark of happiness, Sherwood held their flag proudly, and Thoresby’s spirit was spread everywhere like blue butterflies. It was the House Captain’s responsibility to look after their houses, keeping everyone settled and listening to Mr Mac. When it was time to begin, we each moved to our activites, which were all ran by students. There was a sea of people running throughout the day. Everyone was trying their best and working hard running, jumping, and throwing to score points for their house and win ribbons. When it finally reached lunch, we all spread throughout the stands, eating and drinking plenty of water.

After break was over, everyone continued their activities. Finally, after completing all the individual events, it was time for the final races, where the fastest people in the house would race each other. All the students were lined up ready to do the event. Everyone had mixed emotions feeling nervous and excited. It was the last race of the day everyone had their flags up, pom-poms ready, and sign to cheer. The buzzer went and they were off. Athelstane was winning, with Lincoln coming in second, Sherwood racing for third, and Thoresby in last. It was an eventful and thrilling race. After the final race, everyone eagerly waited for the results. Students sat legs crossed, crossing their fingers, hoping to win. The results found that Thoresby placed last, Lincoln placed third, Sherwood in second, and the winners being Athelstane.  Everyone in Athelstane jumped in joy, so high they almost touched the sky. Everyone clapped demonstrating good sportsmanship. At the end of the day everyone was proud of themselves and their personal effort. It was such a memorable day.

Book Week

Stella Caruso, Year 6, Buckley House

This past week was Book Week. During Book Week there were many fun events like a dress up day, a costume parade, and a magician came to the school. On Tuesday, the magician came to the school and performed some amazing tricks such as cutting someone in half or splitting a magic wand in two and then mending it back together. He was amazing, it was captivating and so much fun to watch. On Thursday we had a dress up day, the theme was to dress up as a character from, or anything related to our favourite book. Everyone’s costumes looked so amazing during the Book Week parade.  Some of my favourites were the Crayola crayons and Toy Story. Book Week was so much fun, and everyone loved the activities we got to do. We can’t wait until next year.

Showcase Concert

Arlo Roberts, Year 6, Buckley House

The night of Tuesday the 19th, the showcase concert took place. It featured lots of engaging and entertaining items such as the concert band and the guitar ensemble. Everyone played well, and there was even an electric violin solo. Overall, it was an entertaining night, and I think that everyone else in attendance would agree.
