Year 12 Update

Blink, and you will miss the Year 12s in Term 4, as Monday is their last official day of school. The students sitting end of year exams have a week of SWOTVAC before the exams begin, while those not sitting exams will find their long and well deserved holiday begins on Tuesday, unless there is still work to be completed.

We will be there to support our students until they have finished, whatever that looks like for each individual. A reminder that subject teachers are available during their normal class times to assist, until the exam has occurred.

Staffing update

Jane Bateson had been working as a casual teacher with us earlier this year, but applied for a contract in Term 3 due to other staff taking planned leave. Jane stepped into a (mainly) Humanities teaching role for that term, and has stayed on for Term 4 as well. Jane brings a lot of life experience to her teaching and this means she is easily able to make connections to the real world, that help bring relevance and understanding to her students.

We were also lucky enough to have Tim Hassan join our team from the start of this term, after advertising for a student support person for most of Term 3. Tim will be working in classrooms to support students and teachers until the end of this year. Tim has been able to quickly and easily jump into a new role for him, assisting the students with their work and pushing them to work more independently.

Emergency Management Plan (EMP)

In line with DE procedures, our EMP is reviewed and updated by the1st of September every year. Our plan covers a range of hazards, such as bushfire, severe weather, medical emergencies, building fires, intruders and so on. We develop specific response procedures to address these risks, and ensure we conduct drills regularly, so that our core procedures of on-site and off-site evacuation, and sheltering-in-place/lockdown are well-rehearsed and understood by staff and students.

Our school is considered at risk of bushfire or grassfire; Category 3 on the Bushfire At-Risk Register (BARR). This means that we will either relocate, learn from home or close when the fire danger rating is Extreme in our local government area (LGA), Alpine Shire. Our school will close on days of Catastrophic fire danger in the North East district.

If we need to enact our Emergency Management Plan, we will notify you by email and Compass notification, with updates on our actions. Please do not come to the school unless directed to do so, as you may put yourself and others in danger. If there is anything we need you to do, we will let you know. In the event of an emergency that impacts telecommunications, we will endeavour to update you by phone call or text message.
