Sports Update

State Cross Country

On Friday 16 July, Alice Mintern travelled to the Yarra Valley to compete in the State Cross Country Championships, racing against more than 100 talented runners in her age group from across Victoria.

While Alice finished further back in the field, she approached the event with determination, gave her very best effort and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Upon returning to school, she was excited to share her achievements and experiences with her peers.

Alice should be extremely proud of the commitment, perseverance and hard work that earned her the opportunity to compete at such a high level against some of Victoria’s best young athletes. Her willingness to challenge herself and embrace the experience is a wonderful achievement in itself.

The St Luke’s community is incredibly proud of Alice and all that she has accomplished. We look forward to seeing her continue to pursue her goals and build on this experience as she prepares for future events. Well done, Alice!

Grade 5 and Grade 6 – Winter Sports

Winter Sports began last week, with our Grade 5 and 6 students participating in an exciting round-robin competition featuring Tee Ball, Soccer and Netball each Wednesday afternoon.

The feedback from both students and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to be active, develop new skills and represent St Luke’s in a supportive environment.

Winter Sports provides students with valuable opportunities to engage in structured physical activity, build teamwork and communication skills, and experience friendly competition alongside students from other schools. Our aim is to foster a positive sporting culture where all students can participate, challenge themselves and enjoy representing St Luke’s with enthusiasm, respect and school pride.

Sporting Schools

St Luke’s is delighted to have secured another round of funding through the Sporting Schools program for Term 3. This initiative aims to increase student participation in a variety of sports while helping young people connect with local community sporting opportunities.

As part of this funding, Goulburn Valley Gymnastics will deliver a four-week gymnastics program for students in Foundation to Grade 2. The program caters for students of all abilities and will focus on developing confidence, coordination, balance, strength and fundamental gymnastics skills in a fun and supportive environment.

We are excited to provide our students with this opportunity and look forward to seeing them build new skills while enjoying a positive and engaging sporting experience.

Community Group – Funding Supports Active Play

St Luke’s is fortunate to have extensive open spaces and excellent outdoor facilities that provide students with many opportunities for active play and recreation. To further enhance these experiences, Mr Thomas approached the Community Group seeking funding to purchase additional sporting equipment, including basketballs, soccer balls, netballs and footballs.

Thanks to the generous support of the Community Group, students will have access to a greater variety of equipment during break times, encouraging physical activity, skill development and positive social interactions.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Community Group for their ongoing fundraising efforts throughout the year. Their commitment and support continue to provide valuable opportunities and experiences for all St Luke’s students. We greatly appreciate everything they do for our school community.
