Year 9/10 Visual Arts visit the NGV

Our Year 9/10 Visual Arts students headed into Melbourne to visit the NGV and explore the retrospective exhibition of Australian artist Margaret Preston.
The visit gave students the opportunity to discover the breadth of Preston's work, from her distinctive prints and bold use of colour to her exploration of Australian landscapes, native flora and patterns. Having studied Preston in class, it was a chance to see her work up close and gain a better understanding of her artistic style and contribution to Australian art.
Students took inspiration from the exhibition and brought some of those ideas back into the classroom, using Preston's approach to colour, shape and composition as a starting point for developing their own artworks.
After the exhibition, we enjoyed a beautiful lunch by the river before heading back to school.
A valuable opportunity to connect what we study in the classroom with the experience of seeing original artworks in a gallery.
