SENIOR HOOPTIME - here we go!

We wish our four Year 5&6 HoopTime teams all the very best for the big day out at MSAC Basketball stadium tomorrow.  All teams are very excited about playing in this fun round-robin tournament against all other Melbourne schools - including Mrs Ferrari’s St. Mary’s St. Kilda East!  A massive thank you to the huge amount of parents that have offered their time to support many of the teams.  Mrs Thompson and Sue Humble are looking forward to a fantastic day with the teams as well.

*REMINDER*: please ensure your child is at school by 8.30am, with their SF singlet & sports shorts on underneath their SF sports uniform.

We wish all our teams a fantastic day of games and trust you will represent St. Finbar’s well.

UPCOMING EVENT:

DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

After a lot of sorting over the past few weeks, a team of approximately 78 students are set to represent our school at the upcoming Dendy District Athletics carnival on Friday 25th August.  We wish our team members all the very best as they prepare for their event/s. This year the Dendy Athletics carnival is being held at Duncan McKinnon Reserve in Murrumbeena.  An Operoo permission and information email went out this afternoon and a schedule with all student’s events will be sent to parents in the next 24 hours.  Any parents or siblings that are Tertiary students willing to volunteer an hour or so to help run the triple jump event for us, please add your name to the Helper link in the Operoo or email Tania with your availability.  Thank you.

OH WHAT A DAY!

AEROSCHOOLS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Wow - what a massive day it was for our 23 Year 5 & 6 students that participated last Thursday in the Victorian AeroSchools Aerobic Championships, held in Diamond Creek!  Right from the first try-out for this opportunity, all students have shown absolute commitment, focus, effort, determination and wonderful energy towards their team’s routine!

After an early arrival to the Community Bank Stadium, with all families arriving around 7.45am, they moved into a warm-up area, along with around 500 other students from around Victoria!

Routines began at 9am and continued over the day until 2pm, when a final 16 teams for each Division were announced.  We are so proud of our four teams performance efforts - all giving it their best and connecting so well with each other!  It was an absolute pleasure to witness as a teacher, and as a parent!

Excitingly, we ended up with three of our teams making the top 16 out of the 85 teams in their Division C ‘first year’ category, who then performed for a final time to determine the winners of the day.  All three finalist teams put in an extra effort, refining their moves and timing and in an exciting announcement presentation, we had a team place equal 3rd, 6th and the third team came within the top 10!  These placings qualified all three teams to be invited to now attend the National AeroSchool Championships to be held in the Gold Coast on the 3rd and 4th of October!  We congratulate these three teams, and after some investigations, families will make a decision on whether we enter our teams in this next level.

A massive thank you goes to Olivia and Angela from Bayside Gymnastics for their time and efforts in helping train up the teams over the past term and a half.  A big thank you also goes to all of the parents for helping drive their child and others to Diamond Creek last week!

To allow our community to see all teams in action, all four teams are very happy to perform in front of the school in the upcoming weeks - a date and time will be announced soon.
