Celebration of Sound: A Night to Remember

Phillip Reichman, Head of Music

A few weeks ago, the music department, as part of the 50-year jubilee celebrations, showcased the incredible talent within the DCC community. This momentous yearly event embodied the spirit of honouring our Lord through music and was highlighted by performances from many of our ensembles including the string orchestras, concert bands, bell ringers, and the senior big band, all of whom drew an enthusiastic audience to the Round Theatre in Nunawading.

The event featured two distinct programs: one for our junior ensembles and another for seniors. Each concert revealed the depth of talent among the over 350 students who participated and performed, leaving the audience in awe of their dedication and skill.

A standout feature of the night was the audible unveiling of two specially commissioned pieces by alumni composer and arranger Jared Haschek. His composition, "Dawn of the Jubilee," performed by the Senior Concert band and “Vision for tomorrow” performed by our Senior Bellringers serving as a beautiful and fitting addition to our 50-year jubilee celebration series.

The beautifully constructed venue added to the atmosphere of the celebrations, creating an impressive backdrop for each performance. The success of the evening can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the students and music staff. Special recognition and thanks go to Peter Sheridan, Lesley White, and Janine Power for their expertise in directing and organising the program, as well as to Simon Perry and Lesley White for their outstanding stage direction and backstage management of our crew.

Congratulations to all the performing students for their impressive achievements! Your hard work and commitment shone brightly throughout the evening, making it a truly unforgettable experience.

Our 2025 Music Captains; Tarquin Nielsen, Bethany Tabart, Denny Chen, and Zoe Young served as our MCs, enriched the night, guiding the audience through an evening filled with joy and celebration.

As we look back on this extraordinary event, it is evident our Music department has never been stronger, serving as a testament to the faithful provision and blessings of our Lord and Saviour. The concert performances beautifully reflected the power of community, dedication, musicianship, and provision.

Keep your ear out for further music department celebrations as part of our 50-year jubilee celebration!
